We just finished a cruise on the Sun and downloaded this app so our teens could wander around but keep in touch. Totally disappointed! The delay and poor app performance is one thing, but you cannot instant message through the app at all. It also kept disconnecting so you would have to re-enter all of your info again, multiple times. Just bite the bullet and sign up for the ship’s data plan for texting. You’re thinking, “I’ll use it for upcoming activities “ ...that feature doesn’t work well either. We relied on the daily itineraries and overhead announcements.

I think the most accurate rating for this app would be 3.5 stars, slightly above average rating. There were some very helpful things about it: 1. Allows you to book dinner and show reservations 2. Gave event schedule for the day, which on my boat (Escape) was always accurate 3. Stayed well connected to WiFi. Able to open it whenever I needed without any additional charge for using the boat’s WiFi 4. Showed updated (within minutes) account balance the entire trip. 5. Has menus for each restaurant Things that could be improved: 1. I agree with other reviewers that a ship map would be very helpful 2. It allows you to make reservations, but then doesn’t allow you to cancel them or see them on the app. I made three dinner reservations the first night before I realized this and needed to call dining to get the date/times because I didn’t know in advance to write them down. Having a personalized dining and show schedule would be very helpful, and probably easy to do 3. Provides descriptions of venues on board (like restaurant, spa, gym, clubs etc) but no hours of operation. 4. Not a deal breaker, but would be nice to be able to settle accounts (ie update credit cards) using the app As for the talk/text feature... I can’t comment to that because we had no interest in using our cell phones while on vacation. We had a wonderful wireless (other than using this app for the schedule and reservations) week. Because we didn’t use this feature we also didn’t pay for the app (free!) and I felt like I got plenty of use out of it for it having no cost. But there is definitely room for improvement to make it even more useful.

They charged us 15 dollars per phone to use the texting and calling on this app. The app doesn’t notify you when you get a text, well sometimes, about 10% of the time and phone calls.....good luck. They rarely went through. You’d be better off using walkie talkies. Seriously. The rest of the app functioned okay. The part you payed for was terrible. If you can come up with another option, use it. This will not keep you in touch with your kids or party. I sometimes didn’t see that I had a message for hours. So unless you plan on checking your phone every five minutes, this won’t work.

The app has real potential, but they missed the mark completely. The schedule in the app would conflict with the daily flyer and on occasion events would simply disappear. Also, there are NO details of the on board activities, just the title and location. Just adding a couple lines about the activity would be huge. No map of the ship. This should have been a gimme. Just a simple map of where public places are, the floor, simple stuff. They have it on the website, why not put it in the app? There is no way to see restaurant availability (you can book a reservation in a specialty restaurant via the app but cannot see when there are openings prior to booking). Real time text messaging, completely missing. The messenger does work but only if you keep the app active AND keep the phone on. If you put phone sleep mode, nada. The app only works on the ships Wi-fi. You can’t look up anything once you leave the ship. It would be amazing if I could see excursions I booked and speciality restaurant reservations. I’ve had apps similar to this where I can share events with others, that would incredibly helpful. The one pro was being able to have a relatively decent listing of your spending. That was actually useful. One last criticism, they have a survey on the app, but it was blank for the first several days. Well, I wanted to leave feedback but it only looked active on the last day. On the last day when I I’m racing to get off the ship and then guess what, I can’t get to the survey now that I’m off the ship.

Nothing against NCL at all... this is about the App.... I completely agree with samsonybogna completely. We thought exactly the same... reviews cannot be that bad?!?! Lol WRONG! This app never worked we spent $60 it was six of us with 4 teens and wanted to keep in touch.... calls never went through and texts came in hours later. Just buy walkie talkies!

It was 60 dollars to get internet and 10 dollars to message and you have to get in the app when you are notified and it’s annoying and what I hate is that it’s like a scam because I get unregistered fix this everything else is fine but this app is bad this is a big scam

This app has 2 main features: a daily listing of ship activities and a text messaging service. Both are terrible. The activities list is incomplete. The ship distributes a paper every day with a full list, and the app only ever shows about 1/3 of these. Do not rely on this feature. The text messaging was nice to have, but it was utterly unreliable. Messages were only delivered about 1/2 of the time and when they did actually send, the recipient would never get a notification. He/she must manually open the app to trigger a refresh. This flaw is crippling for a feature that is supposed to replace SMS/iMessage. As terrible as it was, the $10 necessary to use the messaging was worth it. I was able to communicate with my family members when it would have been otherwise impossible, and we were able to coordinate our plans better. A little bit more effort by NCL (uploading all ship activities; fixing the notification refresh issue) would greatly improve the user experience.
