Works decently well on Pride of America

It may depend on what NCL ship you are on - I found that it worked decently well on POA. The issue is that everyone needs to keep the app on (and it drains battery when it is on) for the wireless network to connect quick enough for calls and messaging to go through. Because of the horrible reviews, my family was the only one using it out of the 6 families and 3 additional couples that were with us. We were able to stay in touch and communicate when we were no longer in cell phone range (mainly when we were on the lower levels of the boat and out at sea) so everyone looked to us to be the primary communicators at that point. Otherwise, everyone relied primarily on calling room to room and hoping their texts would eventually go through to one another. Luckily there is decent cell phone coverage for most of the inter island voyage on Pride of America.

love it!

So I have a lot of family members going on a cruise with me in fact it’s my whole family. So we had to go in different rooms but this helped us communicate.

Do not pay for the messaging package

ES in NJ

Three of spent $10 each for unlimited text and calls using the ship’s WiFi. Not one call went through, and you only get notifications when you have the phone unlocked and the app open in the foreground, despite having set the phone to allow all for this app. Not one message got read at a time it was useful. Aside from the messaging, the app was useless.

Needs ship map...preferably one that shows where you are when you open it and will show you where you want to go. I am VERY navigationally challenged. AND the ship is large...I kept getting disoriented! I found the electronic copy of the Daily happenings sheet very handy. There were some last minute changes that were not on the printed sheets but were reflected in the electronic version. I liked being able to review our account spending...most charges showed up within an hour. It would be nice if we could mark items in the electronic daily happenings...to be reminded of them. Also as someone else pointed out, it would nice if the app showed what reservations and appointments you have scheduled. Drawback...when I wanted to use my cellular data for personal apps, I had to turn off Wi-Fi because my personal apps tried to use Wi-Fi if they detect one.

It just was terrible

It makes you pay for the “free” messaging and hardly ever works with the “high speed internet “on the ships. Also when it says what’s happening that day it could be true it could not. Just go with the paper that they give you every night. My advice never even download it.

Is there a level for “worse than useless”

I don’t usually do reviews but I used this app for a recent cruise on NCL and it is sadly pathetic. The information it provides is not worth the time to load the app. I mainly wanted to use the communication part of the app so my family could stay in touch about the ship. Like many other reviews, don’t waste your money. But a two way radio and you’ll have better luck. It only worked occasionally and was not in least reliable. I sent a message to my wife who was standing next to me and she didn’t get the message for 30 minutes. NCL needs to completely redo this app from the ground up.

Needs an upgrade

We just finished our first NCL trip. We were happy to have the app as we enjoyed using it on the Carnival cruises we have taken. This one leaves a lot to be desired. You can’t do group texting so if you are planning a dinner time, you have to text each individual member separately. It does not “notify” you when a message arrives so you are forced to constantly check your phone. Also, the restaurant reservation feature was not working so we had to call to make reservations. This is fine and we can do that, but it’s more of a pain to keep trying on the app to have it not work. There is not a map of the ship on your app which would be useful as well. Some of these features are easy to add and would make the experience much better. Also when I reserved the trip I was told you download the app on board when you check in. However, when we got there they said we had to have downloaded prior. You have to pay for wifi on the ship ($$$$$$$$) to even download it. Not ideal for parents of teens who do not want the kids to have internet access.

No excuse for a great line to have such a poor app

NCL has the best cruising experience IMHO. But the iConcierge app is terrible. Yes, if everything is in perfect alignment, you can have a call or text go through but, what good is messaging when they don’t go through if the phone is locked? At $9.99 per person for the whole trip, it’s only worth it if it works. Also, all other services are limited like making reservations, booking excursions, etc. NCL has the means to hire an app developer who can create as good of an experience within a mobile app as guests experience on the cruise itself. I hope this is done before my next cruise.

Hasn’t even started yet

All it’s done is keep telling me to relaunch the app — and, the one tone it actually seemed to start, it asked me to enter some info for registration and then asked again and again and then gave me an error message. Preliminary assessment: garbage.

New update

Andrew0996

Great up but time to update the app it’s been eight months since last update it’s time for it to be compatible with an iPhone X display
