Never Worked

gominnesotawild

We downloaded this app prior to our cruise. The instructions are to connect to your ship's wifi and launch the app once you're on the ship. Per the instructions on the app, there is no cost to use the wifi for the purpose of this app. We were able to connect to the ship's wifi (or at least it said we were connected) but continued to receive the message "connect to ship's wifi and relaunch app." We tried several times on different days and never got the app to work. It was disappointing as the app would have been super useful. It was our first time on NCL and we were unfamiliar with the ship. There were multiple times it would have been useful to look up the closest restaurant, the shop, etc. For us, we wouldn't have used the messaging but I can if you have a larger group or kids with you the messenger would be a great feature. When we have cruised with Carnival we have loved their app. NCL should take note and put out a useful app.

Great concept but barely ever worked

Jbrydge

This was an excellent concept for an app, however, often times I find missed calls and messages when the phone was unlocked. Not really all that useful when the main purpose of why we purchased the plan was to use the text and call features. I would look at my phone and find a hundred notifications of my phone disconnecting and reconnecting to the Getaways wireless network. Womp womp waste of 15 bucks.

Non-functional app and service

The app, much like the on-board wi-fi, does not work. Granted I'm comparing this app to the Carnival and Royal Caribbean apps- but Norwegian is not currently able to deliver on boasted functionality; and that is a low bar to meet.

Worked great

Leasemylot

This app, although not super updated or developed, did what we needed it to do. We were able to keep a group of 8 connected while on board. We always were able to get a hold of one another by message or phone call. One note: keep app open even when not using and you won't miss any texts. It was easy to text and also was helpful for figuring out what was going on and signing up for seats for things like the comedy show. I would recommend it for people who don't plan on using their phones' data and texting but what to connect with other travelers on the cruise.

Does the job

This app is very underdeveloped. Using it is somewhat slow but it does get the calling and texting job done. Helped my family of 5 communicate throughout the ship. After getting the free app you have to pay $9.99 to use it on the ship. Once you pay that fee you get internet use but only for that app. It shows the ships schedule but on my iphone 6 it almost never fully loaded.

Helpful App, Needs Work

ajyolofsky

This app does the basics well, but falls down elsewhere. If all you need is schedule and account information, then you will give this app 5 stars. The messaging function is sporadic. Sometimes, messages would arrive hours after being sent. We would include the time of sending in the message so that others would know how timely the message was. You cannot check your existing reservations for shows or dinner on the app. NCL needs to update this app to go along with all the improvements they made to their ships.

Okay but unnecessary

sarahcaittt

We all paid the 9.99 to be able to message each other...turns out iMessage went through anyway. As long as you were connected to the wifi (even without a package) the messages went through. Okay for everything else other than that. Checked my account balances and made reservations. However you couldn't actually see your reservations on the app. Overall, good to be able to see the dailies on the go but generally not that useful. Do not pay the 9.99 if you all have iPhones!

Trrrible app don't download

very little to recommend

jdcarlsonma

The app doesn't crash. That's about all the praise I can offer. The information is static and stale. You'll get more from the paper flyers distributed to your cabin every night. Forget using it to find out what shows are running or what is offered for meals. You'll get much more from the concierge. There's a bit of rigamarole involved in signing in, and your effort is not rewarded. Don't bother.

Good idea, HORRIBLY flawed

Ray The Video Guy

This app is a great idea, and I am sure will be great at some point. However, right now it straddles the line between bafflingly stupid and completely broken. At it's heart, it is a very basic app, which is why it is so startling, that the execution is so increadibly dreadful. The app lists 'what's going on', as well as lists events, excursions, has a messaging app, and keeps a tally of your expenditures. Of all of these things, only the expenditures seemed to be fully functioning, and fairly logical. Perhaps the most 'useful' part of the app, was oddly the most flawed. This is VERY strange, as all it is, is a list of what is happening that day. Yet, oddly more than 50% of the time, I just had a message telling me that no events were scheduled for that day, My entire last day on the cruise, that is all the app said. But it isn't just a tech issue. When it did work, and show what was happening, at least half of the items had no discription entered at all, leaving you completely baffled as to what an event listed, actually was. Worse still, you could only look at the current day... no seeing what is going on the next day. Then we have the shows and events. This actually seemed to work OK most times (sometimes it wouldn't load at all). However, many times, the wrong event was listed. For instance, they had 2 comics, and I never got to see one of them, as when I showed up for the guy listed, it was the person I already saw previously. Then there is the messaging system. Another GREAT idea.... horribly executed. You have to pay money to be able to message other people with an on ship texting system. The problem is.... Most of the time the person didn't receive that message until many minutes or even hours later. On top of this, when you receive a message, your phone does not buzz or make any noise, so you have no idea if a person sent you a message, unless you occasionally open the app to see if there was a message. Overall VERY frustrating. Now for the very obvious features that this thing is lacking (did anyone actually test this app before unleashing it on the public??). 1. As mentioned above, you can only see what is happening on that day 2. On the ship, you have to reserve seats for shows (annoying in itself). And you have to start reserving shows for days ahead, or else they will be sold out. THE APP DOES NOT KEEP TRACK OF WHAT YOU RESERVED!! If you reserved the 7:00 comedy show in 4 days.... and the next day, you aren't sure if you reserved 7:00 or 9:00.... there is no way to tell! Now imagine booking 7 days of shows on day one.... you aren't going to remember them all, and if you didn't know you had to write them down... you're out of luck. 3. For each of the shows mentioned above, you can show up and likely get a seat, as people don't show up, etc. However, when a show is sold out.... it doesn't show up in the app any longer! How can anyone know to come to the show and do standby, if they can't see there is a show? 4. When you reserve a show, and that show sells out.... that show is also hidden, so if you made a reservation for a show days earlier, and you look at the app to see what you are doing that day.... it isn't listed anymore. 5. They have restaurants that you need to reserve fairly quickly for the whole week.... and there is no record of this as well. So you better write down where and when for the days you reserved. Overall, 1 star is generous for this app. I see great potential, but it fails from a technical standpoint, from a planning standpoint and from the fact that they don't bother to add information, or update any changes.
