Host cancelled didn’t get $270 fee back

My host cancelled 6 days before our trip because another family got covid in the house we were supposed to rent. She said if I cancelled she would issue a full refund, well she didn’t refund the $270 service fee and now VRBO is saying I have to reach out to her to get it. What is the point of booking through VRBO if there is no protection!

Come on guys. My major card is a Discover which is not accepted. Really? That left me to front the cost straight out of my banking with a visa check card. You should at least take PayPal or Apple Pay. Then when (not if) your app is hacked the payment info is secure. Otherwise a very easy and convinent to use app.

Don’t do business with this company I rent a cabine in Big Bear everything looks smooth until this company they use by the name Turnkey vacations send me this link to verify my information after many attempts was not able to confirmed my personal information then they ask me to contact them…I was at the place already outside in the freezing cold with my older parents and my kids… I spoke to many representatives from Turnkey they give me 0 options next time I know they decided to cancel my trip without my consent knowing I was already there at the place!!!! they send a person to verify my identity and still didn’t let me stay they have the worst services no education no solution not appropriate training their employees are rude they are the worst ever first time I try to use this company and the last DON’T EVER DO BUSINESS WITH THEM!!!!!! WORST EXPERIENCE IN MY LIFE
Double charges you $1000 even though everything on their end looks right.

This app has gotten terrible. You put a filter for price per night and I swear, every click you do from there on adds and adds and adds. It never gives you the true ACTUAL amount you will spend till the last confirmation. So you can’t warn your guests of an amount and they don’t understand bc when they help you search for a house, they all look cheaper than they really are. AND, if you let a house advertise that it sleeps 9 and it DOES sleep 7-8 comfortably, don’t charge or let the owner charge $64 for EVERY guest over 4. The fees on Vrbo have gotten outrageous. I don’t mind paying every dime if it’s worth it, just put the d$mn price per night on it UP FRONT. And now it won’t let me post 1 star review bc “all” the nicknames are taken. Would have definitely booked through another app had I known I couldn’t even get my review submitted.
Don’t buy travel insurance

I booked a property for our ski trip through VRBO and purchased trip insurance when prompted by their system during the booking process. The insurance payment immediately went through my bank account, but the booking expired due to the owner of the listed property not responding within the necessary time frame, so I have spent hundreds of dollars on insurance for a trip with no lodging. I will never purchase trip insurance ever again.
