Ridiculous start-up runaround

If you think that it’s acceptable to create a mandatory account and then decline thirty-seven attempted info-grab dialogs just to make your coffee a little warmer, then by all means download this app.

Ember App

Battery life should be displayed on home page, instead of having to go to the settings page. Also it would be nice to have the option to change the indicator light for target temp/over/under.

Great, when it works!

I have the ember travel mug. The hardware works as ad. But it drops the Bluetooth connection nearly daily, perhaps every other day if one is lucky. I got it as a gift a few weeks ago. I have had to hard reset it only once. Otherwise closing the app, on a couple of occasions deleting the app and re-do loading it has worked. Still a hassle. The support site says there is a firmware update, but the last release of the app was 3 months ago. But, when it works, it does a good job of keeping your coffee warm!

Still no widget

Weak...

Some issues

I Love the mug most of the time, however it regularly says it is on but it’s ice cold. And I have to reconnect to see if it fixes issue. I don’t see any instructions on resetting the mug or base.

Good mug, buggy app

+ stars because the mug does indeed keep my beverages at a temperature I like. - stars because I have to reset the app frequently in order to get it to work.

Love!

Update: (2 months after using) Still have no idea why people have rated this app so poorly. I think people should’ve tried deleting and re-downloading before they left poor reviews. I‘ve never had an issue with my ember or the app. The app is seamless, easy and reliable. I’ve had my ember for a few days now (will follow up with my review once I’ve had it for longer) I’m pretty confused about some of the negative reviews about the app. For me the app never has any issues. It’s easy to use, works every time, and I have no complaints. I also love the mug, I use it every single day. It always keeps my beverage fresh and hot. FRESH. That’s all I was looking for, something to keep my beverages tasting great, hot, without the reheated taste. With Ember, the last sip, is always as good as the first. Always fresh tasting. A coffee lovers dream!

Please add Apple Watch complication

ACubed10

I love the Apple Watch app to control the temp of my drink but it would be helpful if I could add an ember complication to my watch face so I can quickly access the app. Possible to do in an update?

Lousy software

GBC957

Software works sporadically. The pins needed to recharge the battery get pushed down and make the device useless. Use a regular mug and warm your drink up in the microwave if you need to.

Great Hardware, App needs work

If I were to gift this wonderful Ember Ceramic Mug to a friend, I would advise them to just try it without the app at first. The mug actually works seamlessly and reliably stand-alone. The app itself is an interesting beginning with some useful features such as customizing temperature presets, prompting you when you add hot liquid (“What are you drinking?”) to choose a preset, notifying you when you beverage has reached your target temp, and even helping you track caffeine consumption via the Health App. The app can also update the mug firmware if needed. There is even an Apple Watch app! On my iPhone XS running iOS 12.4, the app must be manually opened before adding liquid to the mug for notifications to work. It doesn’t seem to auto-launch or auto-connect, and I must tap on the icon of my mug (I only own one). I guess I’m spoiled by my AirPods automatically connecting to my phone when I use them and would expect the mug to do the same. The Apple Watch App initially just indicated there was a connectivity problem to my phone. Reading the reviews here prompted me to try using the Watch app with the phone unlocked and the Ember app in the foreground. It finally worked! It continues to work even with the phone locked and the app in the background. When the Watch app works, it shows temperature and allows adjusting it with the Digital Crown. It would be great to have a watch face complication, Mug battery level, and swipe up for presets. Even better would be independence from the iPhone - direct Watch to Mug Bluetooth. As an app developer, I know what a headache it can be to deal with background processes and the challenges of Bluetooth. Some of the ember app problems I would blame squarely on Bluetooth fussiness and iOS background restrictions. Even AirPods misbehave on occasion. All that said, I do love the Ember Ceramic Mug. It’s just the right size for me (10 oz), comfortable to hold, and does what it says it’ll do. Sure, Qi wireless charging would be nice, but that wouldn’t keep up with active heating (40W), so I understand the choice to use contacts (plus more efficient). The gold rings look spiffy on the black.
