So Much Hype, So Disappointing

Joe Cupa

I rated this product 5 to keep it from being buried in the large number of dissatisfied raters who gave it a 1. I bought the cup since I saw it at Sbucks and figured it would not disappoint. That was a mistake—read on. As of 1Jan2019 there were 271 ratings of the Ember cup/mug and the app. Can the 5 ratings really be trusted when there are more than twice as many 1 ratings as 5 ratings? Here are the problems I have with this app: -90 minutes of charging time for one hour of charge for a product that people use for extended time periods -a saucer that must me kept completely dry so as not to damage the electronics. People spill coffee! -another right handed product in a world where 23% of the coffee drinking population is left handed—the light at the base could shine on both sides, this not a tough engineering problem to overcome -virtually non existent customer support, take a lesson from Nest, it pays to have humans talk to your customers

This is amazing

Don’t listen to the bad reviews. This is a much needed product and it works really well. The bad reviews seem to be people with unreasonable expectations. I’m so stoked on this. Thanks for solving my biggest pet peeve about regular mugs!

Smart, but not so hot!

Maurthoughts

Yes, it pairs, maintains temp but I don’t have time to chase the low grade battery life. 1. An hour off and an hour on the “charger saucer” doesn’t work for me. 2. I agree with other reviewers, make the indicator light on both sides of the mug #lefty’smatter 3. Why 10oz???? No coffee drinker has just 10oz’s a day. 12oz +. If you can’t address the issues with the mug, the travel tumbler will NEVER leave the shelves. It will soon be a novelty that we look back and laugh about buying the nearly $100 mug if not re- engineered soon. I absolutely love the concept and the use of the mug ONLY gives me a glimpse of what’s possible with this “smart mug”. BTW - if it’s re engineered, existing owners should be able to take advantage of a eco friendly “trade-up” program.

Great Mug Horrible App

USMC3

Update: The app is even worse!! All my presets are GONE! Only thing left is tea timer! Which I mean is helpful, BUT seriously worse app! Went from 3 stars to now 1!! But great mug! The mug is fantastic, the only problem is the battery life but who just keeps there coffee laying around for hours on end. And if it’s such a problem for people buying another coaster or carrying your coaster around isn’t a big deal. For the money the mug is great as of now, I’ve only had it for about 4 months so we will see how it goes. BUT.. the app is absolutely horrible! I loved it for like the first month but then it stopped connecting to the mug, and I would have to reset everything. And if it did connect to the mug it added it as a new mug which was a pain. And the only good thing about the app is that it had presets for you and now all mine are gone so basically the app is pointless. Please fix the app! Don’t worry about making new mugs and copper mugs and all that just worry about the app for a little!

Love the product but needs more

sherrijd

I love this mug! No more microwaving my coffee multiple times per cup. I really wish the app told you how much charge was left. All of a sudden i get a notice that my battery is low. Seems like this would be an easy thing to offer.

Required Account Setup Unacceptable

Jimmy Allen W.

Having to set up an account to be able to access major features of your product (such as adjusting the temperature) is unnecessary and completely unacceptable. Particularity for a product that costs as much as this does. I will be happy to adjust my review once they remove this requirement.

Doesn’t function well, here’s why...

Michiko7553

I have to constantly sign in. The app will turn off my cups heat The app will not register if their is liquid in the cup The app crashes The app won’t register the cup, have to constantly reconnect it. The set color does not stay, It will always reset to white. Constantly have to reboot the app the above to work.

When it works it’s great

AZSchmitts

Like other reviewers, my Ember just doesn’t stay connected to the app. When this happens you essentially have just another coffee mug. Bummer for the price. I use it twice a day and it’s truly hit or miss if it’s connected. Mug doesn’t have a lot of features-I don’t understand why the software can’t be perfect. It has ONE task LOL! Keep my coffee hot!

Mug is great app... not so much

My wife and I both have one. I use mine with app she does not. The app does not really help. the health app portion would be super interesting and valuable to see but it does not work at all. Mug works great without app.

Horrid

Teej-man

What a terrible app. Love the mug and the idea but good lord please improve your app. It makes the mug unable to be used. Always closing and reopening the app hoping that my mug full of cold coffee will finally connect so I can heat it up. Until the app is fixed do yourself a favor and buy a $10 Mr. Coffee mug warmer and use an old school ceramic mug to keep at your desk. It won’t disconnect due to incompetent developers. Less is definitely more.
