Things worked fine before this latest update

JimmyBubbles

Now I can’t even adjust the cleaning mode (eco, normal, high) in this version 2.2.0. I updated hoping to find an improvement, not more bugs.

Can’t connect!

I spend 15 minutes a day reconnecting. I’m returning my robot!! Stay away!! It won’t map. It’s plain and simple. It does not work. Shark reached out to me but I’ve already returned it.

Good robot, terrible app

Not Weak

The functionality of the app is awful. We purchased for the ability to schedule rooms to clean daily. After more than 30 full house cleanings, it hadn’t mapped our home. Per support, we deleted the map and did a factory reset. We then did an additional 10 cleanings, but the robot was completely missing rooms of our home. We couldn’t schedule, cleanings, etc. Per support, another factory reset. Additional cleanings mapped the house within a handful of cleanings, but even when it would clean the whole house, it didn’t map some of the rooms. We decided to move forward with the map, hoping it would work itself out. We built out rooms, but still can’t schedule anything but an entire house cleaning. We can choose ad hoc cleaning to specific rooms (supports only resolution, which I think is crap) but it still ends up cleaning the entire house. We have another brand with comparable functionality and it far surpasses what Shark has been able to put out to date. But I love how the robot itself cleans. Emails to support do not get a response, and aside from recommending a factory reset, we are told our tickets are being escalated, but then there is never a response or resolution. I usually love Shark products, but this one needs a lot of work.

Pretty, but terrible

It’s a great looking app. But actually using it is awful. If I start my robot from the app, it takes several minutes for the controls to update. The timer starts, but the app still says the robot is docked. There’s no way to start cleaning in a specific mode. You have to start in normal mode, wait for the app’s interface to update, which again can take several minutes, and then you can change cleaning modes. Quiet time just doesn’t work. If the robot is schedule to clean during the quiet time, it ignores it completely. Pressing the clean button on the robot puts it in normal mode even if it’s during the quiet time. The only way to actually clean in quiet mode is to select it from the app after cleaning has started. It used to work. But it doesn’t lately. The early 2018 version of this app was way better. That one wasn’t great either. But at least it worked. This didn’t add any new features. It’s just an updated UI with worse functionality. I just bought my robot vacuum last year. It was Shark’s top of the line at the time. Based on the experience of the robot frequently getting stuck on flat, wide open walls, crossing over the magnetic strips, and then having to use an app that has gotten worse over time, I don’t trust Shark’s ability to make anything good for this product line.

Mapping issues

MGros22

Dreadful trying to create a map. 2 weeks and stuck at 33% is maddening. The vacuum does a really nice job covering the entire floorplan, but it doesn’t update in the app at all.

Very poorly done

Kg1w

Can’t register as it keeps giving errors Can’t have maps as it stuck at 33, even after 100+ runs Called customer service multiple times and even they are having their own internal website issues. Can’t fix anything on their side. Good innovative technology going waste.

Needs Apple Watch/HomeKit support

Koolaid10199

The app itself works fine, but it really needs to work on more Apple platforms. A watch shortcut would be nice. So would the ability to create shortcut with my other HomeKit apps. It’s kind of annoying to open the app...when with most of my other things I can just tap within control center.

Good Robot app works fine just needs more integration

Overall, my girlfriend and I love my Shark R101AE. This is my first Robot vacuum. It has worked wonders throughout my house and keeps the house very clean. Scheduling works great for doing it at a particular time. The only thing I would like to see is IFTTT and SmartThings integration.

Crap App

Edit: I’ve already tried unhiding the SSID to add the robot to the network then hiding after setup is complete. As soon as the network returns to hidden, the robot flashes a red WiFi icon and the app no longer communicates with the robot. Every other device has given me an option to connect to a hidden (non-broadcasted) SSID. The Shark App does not offer this most basic option. I’m not going to make my network less secure just because of this lazy app development. I spoke to support and, after initially telling me to contact my service provider, once they understood my simple issue told me that it’s a known issue with no eta of resolution.

Great robot...Very iffy app

App update required me to reconnect the robot?!?!
