This service is awful! Yeah, you can get your groceries delivered, but do you know how they treat their drivers? They are required to sit in a section of the city for the duration of their “shift” if there is no work, well, too bad for that driver, you aren’t allowed to leave the area. They promise you pay for an error they make, then send you an email that they aren’t going to pay you. In four hours a driver MIGHT get a single delivery that -might- pay you ten dollars. You can’t drive Lyft and Uber at the same time because if you leave your designated area they give you a “reliability incident” even if they haven’t given you -ANY- work. What a worthless waste of time and energy. Use Safeway’s delivery system, or Postmates, or basically ANY other service but this one!

Costco Costs More w/ Membership

They do not tell you ahead of time that you will pay nonmember prices for Costco items, even if you enter in your ID #. I was told if you purchase through Costco.com, you would get member prices, but again, that is not true. App itself is great and delivery people are wonderful. Just an FYI that you will pay more and their helpline staff is not well informed about their product.

Placing an order is great when your order goes throug. I would have rated five stars, except the first time I shopped and added item from two available grocery stores for delivery. Upon trying to complete my order a pop up appears saying “your order is unavailable for delivery from this store” it did not tel me which store. After trial and error (trying to place an order at both stores to see which one didn’t work) it finally went through. However, I had to place an order and then cancel it to test it out. To the developers of Instacart, consider not having unavailable stores in the drop down list. I wasted a lot of time not to mention the 75$ charge (that is refunded in ten days) just to cancel orders.

I have had a great experience with this service and app until today. It wasn’t an app issue. The person that did my shopping brought 2 of the wrong thing. I happened to be walking down my street when this person went speeding by in a 15 mile per hour speed zone with children present. Also, my bags and groceries smelled horribly of cigarette smoke. Really disgusting.

For the first time using this service what caught my eye was the 1 hour delivery window from a Grocery store. I needed 25 cases of water delivered and only 12 made it to my home. The order did not make it to my home in a hour like it was promised. I did not receive any info in the change or issue with my order before the driver came to my home. It would have been nice to know ahead of time what was going on with my order and let me make the decision on what I want done with my purchase. Now I still need 13 more cases delivered. The driver was fast and friendly which was the only up side to my purchase today.

At the mercy of your shopper

Cross your fingers that you get a good shopper when you use Instacart. The app is convenient when I can’t make it to the grocery store but I’ve had some had experiences with the way Instacart handles inventory availability. All items show as available in the app, and if your shopper can’t find the item, it’s up to them to replace it with something similar. If you’re quick enough to catch these changes before your shopper checks out, you can approve your shopper’s replacement, remove from your order, or ask that it be replaced with something else. I’ve rarely had a good experience with these replacements so I only use this app when I’m short on time and don’t depend on receiving the exact items I asked for. In other words, don’t use this app if you’re working with a recipe that requires exact quantities or ingredients.
