Planned obsolescence

JD 34097

I have an older SONOS system that is not receiving software updates. It works fine, but i feel pressure to purchase new speakers so I can get up to date software. This seems to me like planned obsolescence.

No search capacity!

AJaneBird

We enjoy having all our music in one place and the ability to play our playlists in every room. However, we have found in the years since we have been using it that 1) the software has several irritating bugs; 2) the ability to edit playlists by changing song order by dragging individual songs is challenging and cumbersome to use; and, most importantly 3) there is no search function. Trying to find whether a specific song is already on a playlist of 2000+ or trying to locate a specific song in the queue to play it out of order is not workable. I simply do not understand why a basic search function is not integral to the design of this software. -Andrea Bird Former software designer

The best sound

Sonos is above and beyond any other sound system I have ever used!

Sad I Even Have To Leave This Review

PlaylistWars

I was a huge champion for Sonos for many years, and I simply can’t due to how they’re practically forcing you to buy new equipment just to keep their sales up, Slowly but surely, with every S1 update (which is pretty much any time you open the app), the legacy speakers become more or more unstable. Things that worked for years all of a sudden stop working, all in the name of “moving forward.” Considering the premium charged for these speakers, it’s borderline criminal that you can’t get more than a few years out of them, before they “force you” to buy new ones. Sadly, they’re forcing this loyal customer to other brands, because when you pay top dollar for something, you want to see that it has at least a 10 year shelf life - that’s not insane to ask. Had that been the case, I’d be a happy Sonos customer for life. But it hasn’t been 10 years. It’s been 3, and that’s greed, not advancing technology.

The worst

So frustrated with Sonia. Going to try something else

Too cumbersome

Sonos speakers sound great but it’s very difficult to program them with a Spotify or your streaming app of choice. Nearly every month you’ll be asked to update your system and it’s impossible to find and play a Spotify playlist. Despite being a speaker company, Sonos definitely controls what you’re allowed to hear—unlike a conventional stereo where the user can play any medium and any music. And then they tell you to sign up for the Sonos controller app for additional access which complicates the user experience. Too much to deal with for a simple evening of uncensored music.

Do not buy Sonos

Soundboutique

Unbelievable. Every freekin time I try to enjoy my Sonos system there’s some update to download or the app needs updating. Ugh. I just want it to work. Instead of enjoying music I end up spinning through loading, updating or waiting cues. It’s ridiculous. I’m not sure what’s going on or changing your systems to just plain WORK. But this is a major bummer. Now it says it cannot update. Nice. Just update right out of usability. Never buying Sonos stuff again.

Good App When it Works

Not sure about updates however when I tried to first hook up my Sonos they wouldn’t show available. If you factory reset your speakers then add them all over again, to a new system that’s how I got them to work again. Cheers!

Update breaks everything

Sonos’ desire to track you has destroyed functionality unless you agree to give your personal data away!
