Huge quality problem in Leaf and this app for YEARS

AngryToInfinityAndBeyond

Nissan has an unfixed, horrible quality problem in Leaf, made far worse ever since a late 2016/early 2017 customer-paid $200 Telematics Communication Unit (TCU) upgrade from obsolete 2G cell comm to 3G cell comm, which exacerbated existing Leaf system bugs that would run the 12V battery down excessively, randomly in days/weeks/months and cause original 2G TCU and far more frequently the new 3G TCU to “crash”. Once TCU crashes, a dealer visit is required to get it going again, during which the TCU is power-cycled to get it working again. In September 2018, Nissan announced a Leaf recall for supposed Leaf software bug fix to correct the problems, but it did not work for many of the Leaf vehicles across model years. In the 7 months since then, random 12V battery run-down has happened at a reduced frequency, but the biggest problem, formerly related to TCU crashing, the Nissan Connect EV app failing to be able to start charging or climate control or update battery status is worse than ever. Failure of the Nissan Connect EV app now reoccurs at an interval from a week to a month. When it fails you cannot start charging, climate control or most importantly get the status of the lithium-ion driving battery from your smart phone. I suspect Nissan’s NCEV server software has bugs originating or aggravating this problem. Overall this Nissan Connect EV app has been a huge waste of time because Nissan has made so many mistakes in the design of the Leaf vehicle systems and the design of this smart phone app feature, still not fixed after seven years of Leaf ownership. This is by far the worst car I have ever owned, due to horrible manufacturing quality.

Stopped showing update

Ajjaya

For some reason it doesn’t show current battery percentage, cabin temperature etc since April 15th. But nissan owners portal shows correct data.

Garbage app

It’s been stuck on the same date for 2 weeks now. Each time it hit refresh, it behaves as though it’s refreshing and then spits out the same 2 week old information. Even the owner’s portal on a browser will update, so I know it’s not a problem with my car. I doubt anyone from Nissan even reads these reviews or is aware how truly awful this tech is. The Leaf is an amazing car and I’m especially loving my new one, but come on! I’d rather have no app than this.

bugs bugs

Horrible implementation, things just flat out wrong (notification options dont align with web portal). You can tell they rushed this one out and its a piece of steaming garbage at that. Sigh.

Pass on this app

This has too be the worst app I have ever used. It connected to the car once and hasn’t ever connected again.

Works until you stop paying

Kevin94z

My 2018 Leaf came with like 6 months of their premium app features, such as locking/unlocking doors. Funny how almost immediately after the free trial ended, the basic free services also stopped working. Now all I ever get is an error message about communication issues with the car. Is it any wonder why the Tesla Model 3 is the best selling EV? Maybe it’s because Tesla actually cares about their customers user experience.

App UI does not update the current status

Ganeshsivaraman

Was working until 2 weeks ago. When I hit update icon on the app, main screen UI does not refresh though app notifies that app has been updated. What went wrong?

Terrible non-functioning app

I have owned my new Leaf since April 13, and this app only updated the vehicle information ONCE, on April 15. I have tried refreshing (multiple times), reinstalling the app (multiple times) doing a soft reset on my iPhone X and... NOTHING. I called Nissan Connect Services and they appeared to be clueless. My dealer told me last week that several new Leaf owners have complained this app doesn’t work. FIX IT.

Slow and unreliable

playsoutside

The app takes forever to load and then 95 out of 100 times says that it is unable to reach the vehicle while third party apps are able to access the vehicle info just fine. Overall very frustrating experience.

Like my car, hope it works better than the app

Parker557

My car won’t connect to the app. (2019 SV+ bought 4/2019) I get errors about cell service, not the correct owner, and a couple of other errors. I’ve never seen this app. in action. The ironic part is that they want you to pay after the trial period LOL. Who would pay $10/month for an app that doesn’t work?
