Directed created the connected car category for the automotive aftermarket with the launch of SmartStart in 2009. With the release of its all-new 4th generation Directed SmartStart app, connecting with and controlling your vehicle is easier than ever – including control via your Apple Watch!

- Add a Directed SmartStart module to the remote start or security system in your car so you can start, lock and unlock your car from virtually anywhere. Receive push or text notification if your car alarm goes off.
- Add a Directed SmartStart GPS module instead, and you can also locate your car, share activity on Facebook (because your car needs friends, too), and set safety notifications if your car is speeding or goes where it's not supposed to go.
- For the ultimate connected car experience, install a complete Directed SmartStart Digital System and you’ll also get notified if your vehicle sets a diagnostic code, along with direct feedback from the car databus for feature status. Check out the 60 Day Free Trial GPS Premium service that’s included at no extra cost with these systems!
- For more convenience, add a Directed SmartKey module and your car will unlock when you approach the car, and lock again automatically when you walk away.
- Directed SmartStart is designed for use with compatible remote start and security systems sold under the following Directed brands: Astrostart, Automate, AutoStart, Clifford, and Python.

Are you tired of carrying around another clunky remote control on your keychain, or finding yourself out of range when you really need to warm up or cool down your car before getting in? Now you can securely remote start, lock/unlock, or find your car just by pushing a button on your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch, using the exciting new 4.0 SmartStart app from Directed, the leader in vehicle security and remote start.

The sleek, modern dashboard of Directed SmartStart 4.0 gives you fingertip control over the following features of your installed Directed remote start or security/remote start system:

- Lock/arm
- Unlock/disarm
- Remote car starter
- Trunk release
- Panic

Nice app

Viper model 2 way with this direct connect Works flawless with the GPS plan. Glad I bought it

App generally works great.
Austin710

Generally the regular phone app works great, however the Apple Watch portion of the app rarely works correctly. All in all it’s a great app just really wish the watch app worked.

Kind of useless
manpuzzlesman

The range is so short you can’t use it unless you are right next to the car. You might as well just use your keys at that point.

Works so good a 99%
Fer Joachin

I have it since 2014 and most the time had worked very good I would say just a couple times had problems with it just a few minutes.I think because it had poor signal. I recommend it a ? %

Not reliable
LaTriece'

I don’t like this app. It doesn’t work most of the time. And when it does, its malfunctioning. The Bluetooth never catches on, and it always gives me an error message when I try to work the app and lock and unlock my vehicle. Whoever did this app needs to go back and rethink over what they did it wrong.

Always failing
craig 22450

Seems to get worse every week. Always an error where the vehicle won’t unlock or start!! Should be a free app at this point!

The worst
mj0426!

I would never recommend this who anyone. I sold my car so no longer using this app and I still have 6months worth of service left, I called the customer service, her name was Susan and she answered it withThe horribleAttitude with TV playing background. And she told me they don’t give you refund after first month of activation. It don’t makes sense if you no longer have the product you should be able to get refund. So basically they’re just keeping your money for nothing. And while I was using the service five out of a two times I had to try couple times to turn my car on it’s just horrible service and product. Never again the worst company ever.

Apple Watch
Bornwisdom

The app does not load on the Apple Watch. It gets stuck on the “loading” screen and never loads up. Also the app will say the car is started but really isn’t. Seems to work when it wants.

App Gone to Crap. Barely Works
Tee Gee83

I’ve had smart start In my last 3 cars since 2007. The last few months the app stopped working. It works when it wants to. Which is inconvenient. Have to take my keys to avoid getting locked out. Paying for crap. Will rethink renewing and putting in next vehicle

When it works
Kbrtzlf

When it works it’s great. Although there’s some things that could be improved on. Here’s one for example being able to program a schedule- It would be nice if you could schedule it to set the alarm after a certain time of inactivity away from your home or outside your selected range and/or at a set time of day would be nice. The technology is already there it just needs to be coded and added to the program.
