Limited functions w/o a computer

jen_A_fer

At what point are you going to expand the functions of YNAB to the tablet platforms? Not everyone uses a computer or laptop everyday! I use the phone app for my everyday YNAB entries and then I prefer to use my iPad Pro when I need to do my weekly reconciliation of my accounts. I work on a computer all day long Monday-Friday....the last thing I want to do on a Saturday morning is sit in front of my computer at home! ALLOW US TO RECONCILE FROM THE IPAD APP!!! And I am tracking literally reconcile not just clear the transactions! I am considering looking at other budgeting tools because of the lack of freedom this causes. Why pay for a subscription if it can’t be top notch!?

Good app, but the goal updates took a step backwards

JoseWouldKnow

Great app, and have been using it for years. However, the new goal updates are unintuitive and not useful. Was very dissatisfied and disappointed. The monthly contribution is described as “Spend up to this amount each month” but that’s not the function of that goal. For example, if I set a monthly spending goal of $100 for utilities, but I only spent $75 in the current month, then I would only want to allocate $75 the following month so that the utilities budgets stays at $100 given that’s my monthly spending goal. However, the app is asking to allocate the full $100 on that following month, meaning my next month’s budget would be $125, which is more than I would want. This problem would just continue to grow over time after each month. Not useful and not practical when trying to plan future spending.

Excellent for FPU / Dave Ramsey fans

This is better than the everydollar app. Much more detail. Much easier to budget AHEAD (I.e. months to come) compared to Mint. I like the black background. It’s easy on the eyes. Only lame thing: you can’t actually see the details of the transactions. E.g. I see some mysterious expense for $9.86 and it says it was charged by “SQUL**Exprss....SQUL.” <— Hahaha... no joke. This description tells me nothing what this transaction is. I click on it, hoping to see more detail of who made the charge, and there are no more details. Bonus: I appreciate the extra month free that they give. It takes a good 2-3 months of budgeting to figure things out, and the 1 month trial doesn’t really do much.

Just realized I was paying $90 a year

Slim027

Wow - a few clicks later I realized I was buying this app for 90 for the year. I had deleted the app after a day and never realized I had activated a yearly subscription. I only noticed because my credit card had an Apple charge on it. Was not aware they started a monthly charge. Check - be sure you don’t get whacked on the same charges.

Been Using For Years

I am not a perfect budget follower, but YNAB helps you know where things are going so you can get where you want to be.

Different than others

TCE58

It is actually a fairly simple app other than the concept of giving every dollar a job before spending it instead of focusing on analyzing your budget afterwards. I like that it is fairly easy to use both on the mobile app and the web. I see myself using even when away from home. I have been using another very well known app for decades but I have NEVER had a good experience with their mobile solution! YNAB is simple and just works!

A year in and YNAB is amazing

Deb766

I’ve been using YNAB for just over a year and it had helped with my budget in telling my money where to go instead of it just going out not know where it went. I recommend it to all my friends/family.

Essential

This app has changed my life. I never overdraw my account anymore and I am in control of my spending. I know where all my dollars need to go and I am prepared for future expenses.

Dont even ask why, but trust that You Need a Budget, ASAP

RenyBerry

I was skeptical about this and as everyone, it took me a bit of adjusting at first... but boy! Oh, boy! I’m a believer now, i have devoured almost all of the live workshops and YouTube videos, written material... If it has budgeting info from YNAB, I’ve read it. There is not much i can say here that will turn any stubborn heads around, but the fact that i have had gone through several budgeting apps and THIS did it for me. This one, with its mind-bending technique and rules, did the trick. So don’t take my word for it and try it yourself. An open mind and an empty wallet is all you need to start believing. Your mind will remain open but your wallet (or bank account) will thank you for it.

Actually Lifechanging

the app and web platform are smooth and elegant, but it’s the YNAB method that makes the difference. the free literature, helpful support team, and involved community forums + youtube videos brought me from irresponsible broke college student to feeling like an actual young professional in a matter of months. no bs.
