Bait and switch

They sold a product that worked for years. Then they decided to require a paid subscription. Don’t use this product.

Not worth the NEW CHARGE. Not Proprietary

jmiihgu

WINK just lost a customer because they’re starting to charge for something they handed out free they could’ve used advertising or other methods in order to receive some type of support, but definitely not worth $4.99 a month when you can get proprietary software by the vendors for no charge and MORE IMPORTANT CONCERN is a guaranteed future support from your vendors proprietary app as these updates constantly change. I don’t blame someone getting paid for their labors but really $60 a year? Are you serious?. You may say we have one app that does it all but you’re still gonna pick the individual choices once you get into the WINK app. It is jut a easy to have in one location on your phone do the same thing with guarantees future support. At any moment any vendor could drop WINK or change their software and not allow you guys access as they’ve done in the past with other vendors WINK LOST access. I’ve owned this app for a few years and yes it works but just as you read with other negative comments the companies that they link to can easily change and become proprietary and block out wink. When this was free it wasn’t a major concern investing in the hub and the starting kits but now they want $4.99 a month on top, absolutely not worth it when you can just do the same thing with vendors proprietary apps: to give you a few examples Schlage, IRobot and chamberlain and etc. work just as efficient and they’re free. Most important you will always get support in the future. If wink was reasonable and only charged $4.99 per year I may have just given them the support, now I’m loading up on all these other apps and everything is perfectly fine goodbye Wink.

do not buy this product!

this is a bait and switch. you buy the product, set the system up, then they come back and constantly try to upsell u a subscription, if u dont pay, the randomly disconnect your lights and hub. total scam company.

What a joke

Ailien2039

Update: seems like even after offering a free and a paid subscription there are still many issues with the service. I am now using SmartThings and very happy, highly recommend as a better, faster, cheaper option. Far more customization, integration, and automation than I ever thought possible on wink. So after owning my hub for nearly 4 years I now have to pay $5 a month for the exact same features and spotty service. If I were to sign onto the B.S. subscription and the company goes bankrupt in 6 months then what. Absolutely nothing Wink has done recently shows me I should place my trust and money in the hands of this company. My Wink hub is on it’s way to be responsibly recycled though it deserves to be in a landfill. My message to Wink: you know what you can choke on, where to go, and what to do to yourself. I will celebrate the day you go must close your doors.

Scam

This company advertised this as no subscription and then pulled the plug. Now I am stuck with a worthless hub. Pretty soon they will raise your subscription from $5 per month to $15. They are super dishonest so I would look somewhere else for home automation.

Dying company, abysmal support

After buying the GE/Wink AC a few years ago, I was thrilled with the product. I understand that it’s a GE product, but when they switched to a subscription model it was noted that it would not be able to have the robots or cloud based system work without subscribing. That’s ok... I can use it in network, not use any cloud data, and use the app as a remote while on the same WiFi network, right? Nope. They bricked any ability to use the app to control the unit. When I asked support why, I was given a runaround about cloud data, etc... but it’s all within network. What a crap move. Cheap toys from China will connect via WiFi, but not my expensive AC! If that’s the level of support they give, I don’t expect them to last much longer. I get that it’s older and not upgradable to use with Home Kit, Alexa, etc... but to extort people to be able to use their app in my own network for something as small and simple as a remote control is crap.

Dump Wink NOW!

Olli Störmer

Dump Wink NOW before they collapse and trap your devices! Wink is a sinking ship which is extorting its loyal customers to stay afloat for a few extra weeks. They have mismanaged their company, and as a result have launched a squeeze campaign which they call ‘subscription’ service. On 27July2020 Wink made my Wink Hub2 unusable by turning off anything other than local WiFi control unless you pay them their blood money. It would be like Ford demanding a monthly ransom to continue using their car, or Hamilton-Beech doing the same to continue using their blender. Even my ability to remove devices was turned off... which means that they weren’t just extorting the use of their device as a hub, but also holding any tethered devices hostage. I actually had to pay $3.74 for a 1 month subscription just to release my devices from Wink. I switched to Samsung SmartThings, and couldn’t be happier. Smart things offers less expensive hubs, and has a much more intuitive display, and has shown significantly more reliable, timely and synchronized on/off switching for all my Zwave tethered devices.... all with no subscription. Stay far far away from Wink!

Dead end product. AVOID!

Reliable and works year after year

BBooDoc

I built our house 5 years ago with automated lights, heat/AC and water-on-floor alarms that turns water supply off. Did it all using Wink from the start. 5 years out, still works great! And doesn’t require endless Apple/IOS device updates, or get dropped by Google when they get bored.
