So easy to use, even my wife can do it

So far awesome

I have been using wink with my Alexa, Nest and some light fixtures for a couple weeks now. Had a couple setup questions, customer service gave me the fixes. Have really enjoyed the convenience. Planning to add some more devices soon.

Works well...I love it!

I purchased my wink system a few months ago and I love it! I had a few issues setting it up but the wink team guided me through any issues (like connecting to the hub) I encountered. Great product and professional staff.

Worst App, terrible Preformance, if it works at all

Save yourself the frustration, stay far away from this company and their horrific products. I should have sent it back when years ago my WiFi password needed to be changed because if it’s not the length they demand, it doesn’t work. So ok, I change the WiFi password and every device on it to a new password. On a weekly basis it fails to work. It’s really a terrible product. Now there’s been another update that’s logged me out again. It wants me to now also connect via Bluetooth, I presume so they can harvest and steal more information from me for some creepy reason. It also says a Firmware update must be run, but it doesn’t run... If you have any intelligence stay far away from this garbage. It’s the lousiest!!! Life is short, wasting all of the frustration it is, just isn’t worth it. I’m going to give my hub and devices (lightbulbs) to a friend who unfortunately is more obligated to it than I am, as he has locks, etc. I’m going to go buy Phillips lights, they are so far superior to this garbage. Phillips cares about you and their quality products clearly show it. No I don’t work for them. Actually they work for me. Almost every time. It’s a quality RELIABLE product that shames this garbage back to the Middle Ages. Save your time, your frustration, your money, and never buy Wink products. You’ll be very happy staying far far away from Wink. Otherwise, be warned! You’ll be so sorry!!!

Suggested Improvements

There are a number of things I would like to suggest for the Wink app. 1. Because the font is grey and tiny, it can be super hard to see especially in lower light scenarios. Please enable the ability to increase the font and make it easier to see with higher contrast. 2. Allow for sorting of devices. I know I can use groups but being able to sort the devices alphabetically or manually would be super helpful. 3. Continue to add icons for lights or allow us to upload a pic. As an example, my garage has tube fluorescent lights and there isn’t a good icon. Neither for exterior house lights, fireplace etc. 4. Enable me to turn on a light and leave it on for x number of minutes/hours. 5. The app has become super slow. Turning a light off or on is taking >30 seconds in some cases. Turning services off is failing. (I use ios). Overall, I would like to see continued investment in this app even if I had to pay a little each year.

Buggy

Have had this for several years now and the biggest issue is with changing the names of bulbs or plugs if you move a lamp or light to another room. I have a new living room lamp and moved three bulbs to accommodate it from other rooms where I wasn’t using them/didn’t need/want them anymore. I’ve changed the names of them several times and after a few days they always revert to what they were before, so when I tell Alexa to turn on living room 4 I get her saying a few things share that name and then I look in the wink app and the Alexa app and all of a sudden that bulb is kitchen 1 again. Would love to see this fixed.

Unreliable!!!!

Justmyopinionpeople

As the title reads totally unreliable and constantly dropping signals even though I have strong Wifi.

Junk

Skyscream75

The Hubs are junk. They’re always going down.

Best in class but room to improve

What Wink does, it does well. For my set of devices (Hue, Lutron, MyQ, Sonos, Rachio, Ring, Various Sensors, Sirens, Wink Relay Control Panels, Nest—if you enabled before Google took away the ability), there is no better alternative. With a small team, I understand why they do not support every device they could contractually support (e.g. the Lutron Caseta fan controller) immediately after it’s release. I’m sure it’s just as frustrating for their team, as it is for us, when a manufacturer drops off or stops doing what they need to do to function on the platform. Most of the negative reviews on this app are from people on the receiving end of such changes, outside of their control. I have reserved optimism that Wink will grow again, because they’re in a unique position to do so, they cannot rest on their laurels, because neither can their user base. I started this review by mentioning there is no better alternative—I just hope they realize that can change overnight.

What’s the word?

I have both wink 1 and wink 2 hubs. Whenever I try to launch Zigbee Device Updates, the app crashes out. Also additional devices have been stopped being added to the provisioning section even though this last year has seen an explosion of additional devices such as the Inovelli light switches. I want wink to come back in full force for my own selfish reasons, but without progress, it’ll stay stagnant behind ST and Hubitat. Full Local control should be a thing by now with Wink. Give us the ability to fully local control things, offer a few cloud AI things, and expand the product line.
