Integration with Alexa is Not Great

The integration with Alexa is kludgy and the syntax required is awkward.

Great app but you have to use Scenes and Routines for Alexa

GamerAtom7823

I don’t understand all the bad reviews, this app and the whole MyLink system (integrated with Alexa and IFTTT) is working flawlessly for me. First, use MyLink to create a Scene for each desired state of your Somfy devices, like “Open Blinds”. This is very powerful because a Scene can control multiple Somfy devices all at once. Next go to Integration -> Amazon Alexa which will walk you through enabling Alexa control. Now open Alexa and add the Somfy MyLink skill, search for devices and your Somfy devices should get discovered along with your Scenes. IMPORTANT: you must now create a Routine in Alexa for each Scene, using a natural language trigger like “Open the blinds”. Now, you can just say “Alexa, Open the blinds” or whatever natural phrase you chose. Very powerful... a Scene can coordinate the movement of multiple Somfy devices, while an Alexa Routine can use a natural language trigger and also can control multiple Alexa devices (like turning on the lights when you close the blinds). Works great. Nice job Somfy!

Constantly falls offline

MyLink constantly falls offline. Network is setup so MyLink has its own SSID and is set to a single channel, and is within 2 ft of MyLink module, yet it continuously drops network connection. Very disappointed

Nowhere near as good as it should be

I’ve been living with and using the MyLink and the associated app since it was introduced. When it works, it’s pretty good. Unfortunately it is very inconsistent in when it chooses to work and how it chooses to work. Trying to update the MyLink is a nightmare. The app will tell you to update. When you try, you inevitably get the message that you need to move the MyLink closer to the router. When I move it closer, meaning right next to or on top of the router, it still doesn’t work. After many, many tries, I’ll give up. Then at some point the MyLink will update itself. The communication between the MyLink and the app is often odd. You can think you deleted the app and got rid of all the old data then individually connect and program 18 roller shades, only to find that lowering the shades in the dining room now mysteriously lowers the shades in the bedroom. Or, as happened today, the shades go down right in schedule - a schedule I deleted a year ago and certainly haven’t used since then. The app itself is fairly straightforward to use. The instructions aren’t always as clear as it should be. But even if the app was awesome, which it isn’t, it wouldn’t matter when it’s part of such a poor system.

App and MyLink Need Update

Both the App and MyLink seem very out dated. I’ve had nothing but problem last connecting to Wi-Fi. And with all of the technology that we have today- you should be able to program the shades in more than 3 positions; up, down, and “my”. Especially considering the expense of the blinds themselves. Get with it!

Works only half the time.

Integration with alexa is broken 50% of time.

It’s just OK

Ultra basic functionality and very basic UI. And sometimes you have to press the button multiple times before the shade responds. It urgently needs a more modern and professional UXUI makeover and the options to open the shades half way or 3/4, 1/4 etc. Plus from in the app we should be able to see the current state where the blinds are (open, partially, closed).

Getting there

The app is functional, but could be tuned to the user experience. For example, if one has a bunch of shades, you will probably spend most of your time using scenes. But there is no way I can find to default to the Scenes page...always have to switch from the individual shades page.

Horrible App

First of all, the app immediately goes in to setup mode, completely bypassing what it is your trying to set up. Moronic.
