Not worth the brain damage

We have been a customer for years, but since they updated the app it’s been a total nightmare. Once a month the app doesn’t work, which I think has to do with the subscription service. I’m just so incredibly frustrated that the app craps out every month. Restoring purchases does not work. If you need help through customer service, you will get automatic replies. There are plenty of other apps out there. Best to look elsewhere.

Simple idea but buggy and frustrating

******Update Nov 2018. ****** After waiting several months and for several updates to go by, the app still has problems connecting to Apple TVs. The code pops up on the screen, but after entering it, the devices still do not communicate. Have tried everything. Developer blames Apple, but that excuse can only be used so much. ******************************* Idea: 5 stars Setup: 2 stars Customization: 2 stars Esthetics: 3 stars Customer support: 1 star I set this up for a client and grew several white hairs in the process. It takes longer than their free trial duration to get setup well in a more complex environment. I say complex, but very straight forward. Television AV Receiver SONOS Cable box Incredible it was the simple tasks that the app fails at the most. One of the activities would not want to change names. Also, an Apple TV kept asking for pairing over and over. I purchased 2 of the WiFi blasters and like them. Setting them up was straight forward. But what is the point of having a smart remote if it fails at the most basic tasks? I can’t even tell you if their customer support would know how to address these issues because the only interact via email or schedule a call for several days in the future. If you want immediate satisfaction, this is NOT for you! I’d recommend getting and Interset 422 Universal remote from Amazon. But if you like pain, and are very patient (and a bit lucky) you might get all your devices in there and working. Some free advice for Roomie: improve customer support (or make the trial a month at least) Add customization of the remotes. That legacy stuff is pure crap and looks like it too (They are working on this, I believe) Allow having two separate volume controls on the same pane. If someone uses a receiver, they need to control the receiver and the source (SONOS, for example). I am REALLY hoping this app improves, along with their support because there is nothing better out there. If there was, I would waste my time writing this review and would instead be using something else.

Cool system, wish they had more online videos or training of advanced topics. I feel with training I could do much more. I’d even subscribe for that!

The old Simple Control was easily configurable and stable. Version 5 is a disaster of design and performance - configurations change on their own (something that worked on Monday doesn’t on Tuesday) remotes say Offline with no clear way of fixing, Simple Hub is a confusing mess, and you are severely limited in terms of customarily unless you start from scratch (which Simple Control does not recommend Their support is very poor and the owner is quite arrogant - I now have two rooms that were working fine under version 4 which are completely broken under Strongly do not recommend.

Great that they offer a free trial, only after you’ve signed up for a subscription service. Why not offer the free trial before having to subscribe...? Because it’s a terrible app that is frustrating to use and there are other apps that are free that work better. Don’t let them fool you. I just paid $20 for something I will never use.


Almost perfect

I’ve been a subscribing customer since the Roomie days. And now with the boom of home automation and IoT devices, this app has taken on a whole new life! I recently upgraded to Simple Control 5 so I could control my A/V with Alexa voice commands. Upgrading was a learning curve, but that’s to be expected with a major app overhaul. Works great! Love the new interface (now that I’m used to is). But you must have a dedicated iDevice (I'm using an old iPhone 6s) as your Simple Control. Even though I’m very tech literate, it took a bit of finagling to get it working. But it does work. Just stick with it, read the help forums, and email Simple Control support, who are super responsive!


Just keeps getting worse

Been using this since it was Roomie. Roomie did what it was intended to do and it did it well. This latest crap of an app has charged me 3 times this year for 1 subscription that is BUGGY. When they tried to build a simple to use remote it was great but now they are trying to branch out into things they know NOTHING about and the simple remote is long gone. BTW when you contact support because they’ve ripped you off and charged you 3 times instead of the expected and required 1 charge, they blame apple. Apple didn’t build this piece of crap and rip me off, they did. Update. Ip compatibility list is way off. Purchased 3 TVs off their list. All TVs listed by make and model on other ip control list. NONE work on this. Tech support is downright abusive. Update. Yes, contacted tech support . Believe the bad reviews they truly are abusive.
