Horrible update

Mr. Ceviche

This update is just not worth it, I’ve been using the app since the early Roomie days and now in V.5 most usefull configuration and preference options have been removed and many available options don’t work as expected. I sent some questions and feedback to the developer but they are obviously too lazy or too arrogant to respond. I pay premium subscription fees for a premium product, I also expect premium service. Unless these guys get their act together I’ll be out shopping for a new solution... Update: Nice try blaming Christmas Day, my message to support was written on November 22 and I followed up 36 hours later and to this day no response. My review stands, very poor support from the developer!

Can’t try app without subscription

RKSPDS

Need to find a remote app among tons of choices and so I need to quickly try them. I don’t have time to create an account for every app just to see if it’s even going to be worth it. Every developer cares about themselves and not the user. Uninstalled immediately.

Great value for money

Tomero888

Great app works great on iPhone X and global cache hub. Too bad you can’t manually add activities.

No account

I would not set up an account to try an app.

Major Disappointment...

This app "upgrade" is a major disappointment in many areas. Let me start by saying I've been using roomie remote subscriber for many years with a paid subscription and have always loved the app until they pulled a fast one. They decided to come out with an upgraded version 5 and instead of allowing the folks with the existing version 4 to continue using the app and keeping it on the App Store they revamped it to be a legacy app with a new name (now ver.4.11) and now you need to pay $9.99 if you deleted it from your device or want to add to another device on your same account as the previous version is no longer available in the App Store. This is BS on their part and completely unfair. In addition the user interface has taken a major step backwards and modifying a devices remote or activity is totally cumbersome at this point. They have also revised the rooms setup which you now have no option to remove if you choose not to use it. I also went to install the new version on my wife's ipad (because I do not want to pay $9.99 for the old 'legacy' version which I already own on another device), and I am out of luck because it now requires iOS 11 for the new "free subscription only" version so I am out of luck. I feel I have paid for an app that I no longer have access to on the App Store unless I want to pay an additional $9.99 as well as the monthly fee I am currently paying which I will not do. I think I am going to find an alternative to this app as they have really done an injustice to their long time subscribers. Rob

Long Time User, now disappointed

I have been using this app extensively (50+ devices) since it was Roomie Remote. Very disappointed in the new design. If you compare the old design to the new design with someone who has never seen either if them, they would swear that the new version is the older of the two. Also, when upgrading, many of my functions (especially including Roku) did not transfer to the new app. Last, simple hub apparently needs to be upgraded as well, but when it asks ‘Upgrade Now?’ It doesn’t give you the option to say yes or no... just an option to ‘skip this version’ or ‘learn more...’ Please consider a change back to the old GUI. Far more intuitive, better layout, and more closely mimics an actual remote control... Which, after all, is the whole point... right?

A big leap backward

Steve C.

I’ve be a user for close to ten years from the early Roomie Remote days. I was generally very happy with version 4.5.11 though always hopeful for some improvements. This version 5 is a complete disappointment. The interface design is very poor. My family hates it and doesn’t want to use it. It is not intuitive. I know how to use it but find it hard to navigate and terrible to use and look it. I’ll stick with the old version and look for an alternative. I just don’t understand dumping the interface. To release it without the ability to edit the remote designs is just dump and half baked. Very disappointed.

New Version overly complicated.

It seems like the new version is overthought. Alexa integration doesn’t work and it is difficult to navigate. In addition running the Hub on an appleTV is worthless since appleTV apps cannot automatically open on startup.

Dont like that I cannot customize remote

Villacostomucho

Long time user. I love the idea of this app. I have used it for several years to integrate 13 rooms of audio and video all hub-bed out of a central media closet. Nobody comes close to what these guys do for ease of use and control. You would pay thousands of dollars for this control elsewhere. In addition I can interface with 2 components and a lighting control system that use an html database with Simple Control and rs232. Although that took some significant effort at my limited tech understanding. This new design is OK. But I cant customize the new style remote screens. Or maybe I can but don't know how? I would at least like to remove the buttons i don't use. And get better access to the volume commands. Which is a 2 step process currently on my yamaha receiver. This new system does solve a bigger problem. It allows you to set up a dedicated apple tv as a central controller. So rather than multiple devices controlling multiple devices. One hub is configured to control equipment. And the multiple user devices are simultaneously fed back status information. So if I turn up the volume on zone 3 and change sources on a receiver. All the other devices are updated to reflect that status. This also fixes some quirky equipment that couldn't connect easily to multiple devices. Such as my Yamaha multi zone receiver. Weather you have a simple setup or something massively complex. This will work for you. A couple of tweaks i mentioned will improve it. Put all those stupid remotes away and move up to this now. Its some work to get a complex system working. But worth its weight in gold.

Powerful, Elegant, a Gem

If you’ve tried to buy or program a truly universal control center for A/V and other devices, you know that it’s expensive, time-consuming, and frequently makes you constantly reliant on systems integrators. I’ve used universal remotes to professional automation controllers and this product rises above everything in my opinion. And the fact that it can use IP control makes it highly reliable compared with IR and RF solutions, although Simple can use those connection techniques as well. The only shortfall I can see for now is the lack of a hardware device with hard buttons, but the advantages of this solution far outweigh that shortcoming. Support is outstanding - responsive and knowledgeable. How often do you see this in a consumer product? It’s easy to see this software core being built into OEM products someday. They have solved many of the difficult issues surrounding integrating many products with dissimilar interfaces and are dedicated to ensuring the product is successfully used by its customers. Version 5 is a significant step up from Version 4, which was a big improvement from the days of Roomie Remote. The team is clearly dedicated to constantly improving their offerings. I’ve never written such a positive review before, but these guys deserve it. I really appreciate what they have accomplished.
