Worthless

This app is about as useful as a poopy flavored lollipop.

Not even worthy of one star....
Mr Gizmo

At one point I had money in a 401k with Principal. When I took a new job elsewhere, they recommended I put those funds in an IRA. Good advice, but the app is unable to “see” IRA info. I asked them about this a few years ago, but have never seen any effort at all from them to address this shortcoming. Maybe someday.

Only lets you see the amount you have in your account but will not let you make any changes. You have to sign in every time and the app freezes up.

Web app; not true pro dev app
potversuskettle

At login, it’s apparent this is a web app, not a pro app developed from the ground up. Why am I downloading this app, if I can just put the website on my Home screen? No Touch ID or Face ID credentialing. On to the new two-factor authentication. That’s nice to have for an app or website providing me access to sensitive, private data. However, pet peeve, when I click on the field to enter the code sent to login, I get a full keyboard to enter a numeric code. If you’re sending a numeric code, why not open to the numeric keypad, rather than the full alpha-numeric? That choice would be much more convenient for your customers. Finally, after I clear the two-factor authentication, I’m prompted to update my security questions (new security protocol - perfectly reasonable). However, upon clicking “OK”, I get an error message, and the app crashes out. Again, you’re paying developers to do the barest possible job to publish an “app”. Let your developers spread their wings and see how great an app service they can provide your customers. Until then, I’m deleting and posting your website to my home screen - it’s effectively the same thing.

Is this beta? When are they going to finish?
Puzzleman665

Overview screen is solid. Too bad all the other pages like Contributions or Withdrawal or Investments just lead to “Loading” screens that never finish. For a big company like Principal this is a really poor app. I’m going to tell our company admin who chose them for our 401k that this app is a big miss.

Not just hard to use...its WRONG!!!
Alanlangw

The personalized rate of return in the Principal iPhone app is WRONG!! Somehow losses are being displayed as gains!! I own the Lazard Emerging Markets Equity fund in my employer sponsored 401k. The year to date return for the fund is -13.1%, confirmed in the Principal desktop website, the Lazard website, and the Morningstar website. In the iPhone app, the rate of return for the fund shows as 13.1% with no negative sign. This is a big difference! The personalized rate of return on the Principal iPhone app is 0.3%. The personalized rate of return on the Principal desktop website is -0.3%. The Principal desktop website is correct and the iPhone app is completely and totally wrong. I have primarily been using the iPhone app to track my investments recently. I was completely mislead. I cannot believe that Principal would put out a product with such a huge problem. Who knows how many other people have this problem??!!

Shouldn’t have your money
mags1223444997

If they make accessing your info this hard they shouldn’t have access to your money. They obviously don’t have to answer to individuals.

Does not work
Hieidark123

This app literally does not work. All it has to do is pull in the web pages but it cannot. It blows

The app got better not so much
Betchface

While I like the new streamlined look of the app it still lacks in comparison to say E*TRADE. Loading issues: certain screens never load even with four bars signal or wifi. Location services? Why does this even ask me for this? You don’t need to know where I’m at to handle my 401k ?? Fingerprint verification! Why have you not implemented this?? All other financial apps have! I’m sure I’ll be back with more just wait....

Need Update

Touch ID is really needed for this application. Otherwise, I have no problems with functionality.
