A Truthful, Unhappy Review

The whovian hobbit

As a concept, it works. Control how much time your child has on their phone, control which apps they use depending on if you do the paid service, seems nice! This does, in theory, work. You do block the apps. Of course, you need cellular network or WiFi to unblock and block things, so hope that the cellular is good enough to not ruin your child’s phone experience for the day by wasting their time not loading. The problems, overall, are what happens behind the scenes. Deleting info, messing with settings, and other things that OurPact has known about for at least a year, based on time of reviews I’ve read, and they’ve done nothing about it. It can sometimes cut down on a child’s screen time, but at what cost? Social aspects of their life have been limited. It’s actually upped my “screen time” because I have to wait for it to pause, then unpause it, then pause. While I’d say it’s a better alternative to just taking someone’s phone, it’s certainly a burden on many children’s lives. Speaking from experience, I have a couple friends who really struggle with depression. The depression brain, it’s no fun. It’s even worse when you don’t have anyone to talk to. Kids who may be struggling with these illnesses can sometimes only express themselves and speak through these apps the parents are blocking. Or perhaps a kid is talking to another kid, and then all of a sudden the kids apps block. How can he tell the friend he’s had to go? How can he make sure the friend knows he’s not just ignoring him?? they can’t. Safari searching is also now a nightmare. Let’s say you don’t want “weird rash” on your history. Who would? It’s a shame you cannot clear your history or use private browsing, so that weird rash will be in your history forever. There is also a PLETHORA of words that are blocking words, such as “casual”, “hardcore”, or other words that could very rarely be used in a pornographic sense. As an example, I was trying to access a document for my French test, and the website kept blocking. I have no idea what keyword set it off, but it did. Or the time I tried to look up how to keep my mothers meal warm for around 30 minutes, and one website telling me how was blocked for unspecified reasons. Even Amazon was blocked until I whitelisted it in the app. The website blocking isn’t very customizable, just allowing for Whitelisted websites to be allowed. Not EVERY website will be categorized as whitelisted when you need it to be. Bottom line is that it works, but be wary with how restrictive you choose to be. Restrictions tend make kids more rebellious. Why shouldn’t they act as if they are these phone beasts who need to be controlled? That’s how some parents are acting they are. It’s a classic case of trust, checks and balances. Be cautious. And please OurPact, just fix the notifications issue. Or address it in some way. It’s fairly annoying.

Yep

That’s what’s up. No more back n forth w my preteen. 33 yo Mom here. It be even nicer if I could block and see messages bc my daughters ex friends mother tried to abduct her and give out a grown mans number to my child. Kidnapping can happen to anyone.

Don’t pay the premium.

Summerspice99

At first we paid the premium to have control over our daughters pass for when she got into trouble. At first everything was fine and nothing was blocked I had to unsubscribe because the amount was becoming too much every month. After I unsubscribed to it the app blocked (not me) all of my daughters apps and couldn’t do anything on her phone. I had to resubscribe in order to unblock everything and delete the app. It’s ridiculous that the app itself would do that. The location works for a little bit but eventually stops working. Horrible app

Stay Away!!!

How dare you scramble around applications/folders/settings on users personal devices when installing your app and asking us to purchase the premium package to resolve you b.s. so called bug. Now I get to spend the next 30+ mins re-arranging my phone to get it back to its original configuration!! Reporting to to Apple and blasting you on social media. Thank you!

Kids can hack it!

G00dRoxPlayer

So... I installed it on my 11 years old IPhone. One week later, I found out that if he wants to continue playing a game, he will just turn on the kiosk mode, and can play without no problem for hours. Called customer support, they said I have a smart cookie on my plate. Yes, I know. Anyway, the only apps that I had left open for him were phone, maps, and google classroom. What can go wrong? Well, you can use classroom or maps, to open youtube videos. Also, for messaging, screenshot, and that allows you to text the screenshot to anyone... here you have messages ?. 2 stars because still annoys him, but I will follow up if he finds something else to break the system

THE WORST APP EVER

Joey Dressslgn

I put it on my child’s Phones and guess what the next day they took out OurPact from the settings it’s too easy to make it stop working BAD APP

Location

sammoonamama

If you want to locate your kid and you pay money good luck. Every time I needed it it said I had to refresh the app on my kids phone, who clearly was not with me and that’s why i paid for a tracking. Canceled

Can not get these people to answer emails

Improveapp12345

I pay for the subscription and my daughters contacts simply disappeared. It won’t let her add name and info to the numbers either. I’ve written 2 emails to find out if it’s a setting that I don’t know about but I haven’t gotten an answer. Frustrating.

Very impressed

Sighing relief

Works great, much better than expected once you get it set up. 10/10

nope

Hfhvghgkg

parents have way to much control over kids so if the child is in trouble they wouldn’t be able to do anything on the phone.
