I have to admit I only found out about switching to ads model while listening to Under the Radar (on Overcast of course). I had no idea since I went premium as soon as I tried out the app when I first downloaded. The app is absolutely amazing it gets out of the way when I need and has the UI to help me get what I need, when I need. I love Overcast. It's by far my most used app since I listen to podcasts couple of hours a day. Apparently a lot of ppl are angry about adding ads. Do these ppl work for free too? You want a good service, you gotta pay for it. Thank you Marco Arment for making my iPhone better.

I love the Smart Speed and Voice Boost features. A complete podcast application.

Amongst all of the podcast apps I've tried, Overcast is the best one for me. Its design clearly comes from a person who also loves podcasts and eats their own dog food with this app. The smart speed feature is amazingly well implemented and is invaluable to someone who listens to a lot of podcasts. The current version is embroiled in controversy over the addition of ads. As a former purchaser of the premium features, I haven't seen the ads yet to know if they're too obtrusive. However, I will argue that this app is fully worth the subscription price to support its continued development and support. And given the realities of the current app development market, I can understand how the ads are necessary for users of the app who aren't willing to pay for the software directly. If what you care about is a high quality podcast app, I don't think you'll find a better alternative today than Overcast.

I have loved using overcast but now there are hideous ads built into the app. I am switching back to the podcast app I used to use.

If you're an audio power user, this is the podcast app for you.

I paid for this app to get rid of the ads, now they are back, and the developers want $10 per year to get rid of the ads. Bait-and-switch. Don't bother with this app, plenty of good podcast apps out there.
