A whole new way to use the iPad

This app totally changes the way to interact with the iPad. The app is very intuitive and so natural with the Apple Pencil. It brings together the best of both worlds. I don’t usually write reviews or pay for apps, but this app is worth it.

Terrible

After the last update, this app is completely useless. It only reads iCloud and none of the docs that were downloaded from or located at other sources. All my important docs are in Google Drive. Apple is not my worklife. I do not like developers who release junk code and then expect users to debug them. I do not work for free. I purchased GoodNotes 5 to work on all of my PDFs regardless of where they are. I want GoodNotes 5 restored to its previous version or my money returned.

Great Overall, a few problems

This is hands down one of the best notes app I’ve used with Apple Pencil. My only gripe is that the shape tool does not work as well as i would like. Coming from an app like Microsoft OneNote with incredible shape recognition, GoodNotes has a way to improve.

Everything is (almost) perfectly intuitive!

I’ve just been using this app for a few days, and it clearly stands head and shoulders above onenote, my previous notes app. It’s a pleasure to use, and the feature set is more than able to meet my needs. There’s a few odd behaviors of menus and things that only stand out to me because the rest of the app feels so smooth. When you tap a second time on a tool like the pen to open the pop-up menu, you can’t close that menu by tapping the tool a third time. It just blinks until I realize I need to tap outside the menu on the page. The other thing that I feel is missing is some gesture to close a notebook. I keep expecting either a swipe down or a firm pinch to close the notebook, to no avail. One other thing I personally found odd was that opening PDFs saves copies of them inside the app, so the process of annotating, saving, and sharing PDFs that live in my iCloud Files has an added hiccup of re-saving annotated files to iCloud Drive. An “annotate with” share sheet action that doesn’t save in goodnotes would be amazing.

Junk.

So far I’m not impressed. I’ve had the app for twenty minutes. I can’t import from OneNote or notability. The app keeps freezing and crashing. The work I do disappears and I have to restart my iPad to get the app to load and I pray to get my data back. I paid MONEY for this.

Best App Ever

Oleka2014

I love this app. Makes taking notes too easily. Truly a game changer!! I am in graduate school working towards my MBA. The features make taking notes a breeze.

Constant crashing

Lexy2025

Would love if it didn’t crash every few minutes

Awesome app but

Edited in some areas to make senses: I really like this app for two reasons. 1) I like variety cover notebooks with different styles. 2) I really like to be able to have highlighted words move around after they’re lassoed around to different area on notes with no issues (Notability have that issues...not being able to move words around with highlighter attached to words). I don’t like this app for three reasons. 1) I do not like text boxes when typing instead of writing. There is lasso for reasons, to lasso around texts and resize them or move them around. Please remove text boxes for typing. (Notability doesn’t have text boxes unless copied words were being pasted onto notes). 2) When adding picture as a new page, there’s no where to write below or above the picture. Hope this part makes senses. Last reason for not liking this app. The colors (black, white, and yellow) notes are way too limit! Need more colors!! 2 - likes 3- dislikes ?

Amazing app

What one the best apps for note taking worth the price.

“Backup it up yourself” Button!

MeysamKiani

Of course the he app has auto backup, but the very important feature to me for switching from Notability is the ability to backup everything yourself with a button. Simple but vital to students. I lost all my 149 medical books of 2 years in the med school after updating to the latest version of Notability 9.2.2. I had my auto backup on and I also had my iPad OS backup in my Mac. What I didn’t have was a real copy of the notes. Mac OS Catalina refused to restore my iPad with an error! And as for the auto backup goes, you should know that when the files become too big, they’re almost always not up to date(with the most little changes, the whole book should be uploaded all over again but when the screen turns off in the iOS, every task gets terminated, so no backup!). In summary: Backup your precious books and writings YOURSELF with tap of a button in GoodNotes. Thank you very much GoodNotes team
