Disappointed

I chose Good Notes because of it’s organization and features. , however when I downloaded and tested out the pencil it appeared to lag behind my writing speed and some letters like s get cut off at the top of the letter. Would give this app 5 stars if it would take notes more like a real pencil.

Does not download PDF files

Madz(:

After being a big fan of GoodNotes 5, the app randomly stopped working by not letting me download pdf fines to the app after a new update... This is extremely disappointing because as a student, this app was literally my life since I relied heavily on PowerPoint note taking in my ipadpro... Would love to hear back on what happened with the connectivity after the update but until then, i give it a one star :(

A step backwards

I bought this app because the version 4 kept alerting me that it was no longer going to be supported. I’ve used GoodNotes for a number of years, and really loved using it. I take all kinds of notes with it. I had procrastinated upgrading and went beyond the free period to upgrade, my mistake. And I’ve loved using it so I didn’t mind paying for it again. Once installed, it prompted me to upgrade my notes from v4, and that was seamless. One thing I noticed right away is that the controls for pen selection and eraser and the lasso were all moved to a new toolbar that sits below the nav bar. That means to get to the tools you have to give up writing space. This in an era when Apple is encouraging app designers to get out of the way and let content show through. So you either have to interrupt your work to hide and show the toolbar, or give up the working space to keep the toolbar visible. Ouch. In v4 the common tools were all in the nav bar. Now there are a bunch of other tools there, ones that I haven’t found to be as commonly used as the pen, eraser, and lasso. I use the app so often I just leave it open. Tabs make it really easy to keep open the documents I use often. I noticed a couple days ago that when I return to the app, usually after a few hours away, the app opens to the document viewer, rather than to my open documents. I can open one of them, and all of the tabs reappear, so that’s good. But it is an extra step to get to work again. I’m guessing a bit here, but I think the system is closing the app while it’s in the background, and when I open it again it opens to the document viewer. Unfortunately when the tabs reopen, they zoom the documents out fully. I have a 9.7” iPad (not pro) and for writing I have the device in landscape, and then zoom in to the page width so it is close to the width of a sheet of paper. But when the app reopens the tabs, it doesn’t retain the zoom on that tab, so in addition to having the extra step above, I have another step before getting back to work. I don’t like giving a review that’s not really good. My hope is not to deter you from buying this, but that the UX team pays attention to this review and finds a way to put the common tools in the most prominent places, so you don’t have to make a bad choice about the toolbar. And I hope that the SW engineers pay attention to both keep the app running in the background (why does iPadOS kill apps in the background, and can you make the app less of a target?) and retain the zoom level on open tabs. If you’ve read this far, thanks for reading. If you’re considering buying it, I still recommend it. If you already own this app, I encourage you to add your voice to mine if any of these things resonate with you too.

Goodnotes is not syncing well with my MacBook. I use Goodnotes 5 on my iPad and I was excited to get the app on my Macbook to accompany it. It was disappointing that I had to pay another 8 bucks just to have it on my Macbook but at least it syncs. Or it's supposed to. I have been using it for the past few days and everything has been going SUPER well... except for a few of my pages, the highlight does not sync up well. On my iPad, the highlighter marks where I want it to be, but on my Macbook, the highlight marks are a little off. I left it and re-opened Goodnotes 5 (I even tried to restart my computer after that), but the marks are still not syncing properly. After restarting did not work, I tried to move the highlighter marks on my Macbook's Goodnotes and it stayed. I went on my iPad, and I looked at the pages that had the problem, but the highlighter marks were off. I don't know how to fix this, since I think it has to do with the syncing capabilities and it's probably a bug. I hope someone fixes this so that I can print from both devices and they would look great. Thank you

Amazing

Life got easier and paperless. I do my journaling, write down my ideas, take notes, review notes and send back, copy articles and write annotations. It’s easy to organize and find what I’m looking for. I wish I had this back in college.

Fairly good note taking app

I am using this app on my iPad to take notes for school. I find it really useful, though I had trouble deciding to use this over Notability, at first. What I like about GoodNotes is the customizable colors, pens, and templates. I also really like the magnifying feature so that you can write as neatly as possible. I wish it had the recording and organization interface that Notability has. Then, it would be perfect.

Early Review

I am new to iOS platform and using digital notes, but as a newbie this app is fantastic. I have encountered little to no issues so far and the writing experience is great on the iPad Pro. This is minor, but I have noticed some rendering bugs. Sometimes lines on note paper are rendered with blocks rendered shifted up or down. I only noticed this when writing long class notes for a class I teach.

Stop trying to upload to icloud!

Los Gibbers

The app itself is great, but I will get a notification atleast every 5 minutes that it can’t upload to iCloud and to change this in settings. However, there is no option to change this! I use microsoft OneDrive for work, not iCloud. So I’m harassed by this message while I’m trying to write and the app settings can’t turn this off. Ended up paying for iCloud to get it to go away. Great app itself, extremely irritating settings.

Need to add recording lectures option

Other than that it is a great app
