Great idea, spotty apps

Swduncan

The method is great, but the apps are have annoying bugs and missing features. Reconciling accounts can only be done on a computer, as the web app isn’t accessible on mobile devices (it just redirects you to a page to get the mobile app) The bank interfaces are buggy. The web app will often jump a row when an item is selected, so if you’re quick you’ll often find you’ve edited the wrong item. When you match two approved transactions you have to approve it again because whatever. Very glad I got in before the price increase.

Confusing

I work for a financial planner at an investment firm. I have my series 7 and 66 licenses. And I can’t understand this app. I hate that it includes my savings account as part of my “To Be Budgeted”. So it’s constantly showing I have thousands to use when I keep a limited amount in my checking account. I’m also confused how credit card payments work because when I make a payment OR spend money, the available balance for that credit card gets higher then rolls over to the next month. Same goes for my mortgage, I pay it off in full and the credit somehow rolls over to next month. I wish I could start at zero each month and categorize everything again. I appreciate the free online classes but it doesn’t make using the app worth it for me. A rep was even nice enough to email me an explanation of how the budget categories work but I don’t have time to study an app and figure out how it works. I canceled my subscription.

Kiss the App Developers!

Let’s take a moment to recognize the amazing updates to the app. I no longer have to switch between the calculator app & the budget app cause BOOM you can just add the amount allotted for the week now. Game changer. I’m the happiest budgeter right now! This app is great - I was never taught to budget, sucked at it when I tried starting and then I met YNAB & one year later I don’t know how I ever lived without you.

App is great, customer service is second to none.

I’ve been using YNAB for a long time now, and this latest update makes it the best YNAB yet. More than that, this is, by far, the best budgeting app I’ve ever used; and I’ve used a lot. This app has literally changed my life. Since I started using it, I have had less money-related stress, was able to buy my first house easily, have bought a new truck that, just a couple of years ago, would’ve been far out of my reach, and have greatly improved my credit score. Not only is it the best budgeting app, but they have the best customer service I’ve ever interacted with. Any time I’ve had an issue or a question, they’ve responded very quickly, often within minutes. (I must admit to being a bit high-maintenance, as I’ve contacted them many, MANY times.) I, frankly, was not happy when they went cloud-based, I would still prefer to keep my data locally, but it’s been such great help to me, that I can’t imagine switching to anything else.

This app, along with the free online classes have given us a huge piece of mind

Bye bye grad school loans

YNAB changed my life. The philosophy, educational support and app helped my family pay off six figure student loans. It freed me to feel comfortable throwing more and more extra payments toward loan pay down because I could see that everything else was accounted for. That feeling of “what if something comes up” fades, even for a risk-averse catastrophic thinker like me, when you’ve been budgeting and tracking your spending for a while. My friend and I sometimes joke about how much we would have saved if we’d discovered YNAB before having babies...or when we moved to NYC...or when we got our first “real jobs” or in college. Imagine!!! Or don’t, just start now. It’s never too late and never too early. Ask my 8 year old. ;)

SCAM ALERT: Ambushes you with $84 charge and no way to challenge it

MZ501

Stay away! I downloaded this app on the advice of a friend and then forgot about it. A month later I got hit with an outrageous $84 iTunes charge - ostensibly prepaying a year’s worth of service at $7/month - and there’s no customer support number to call to get this refunded. This app is a total scam!

Loved the Overhaul. And loving the minor tweaks

Gjp426

I loved when they totally redid the entire app a little while ago. And I’ve noticed they’ve started to make screens more stream line over time. Love it!

Awesome App

I love this app! Not only does it help you be smart with spending and saving money, but it also gives you the freedom to spend money guilt-free. Very user friendly and lots of neat features. Definitely worth the paid subscription!!

The only way to use YNAB

Vulgar demos

This app is a blessing less for its design or functionality than simply by virtue of the fact that the web app is so bad that virtually anything else is a massive improvement. That said, this is the only app I use daily that I would call a very badly designed app. Little details like check boxes are tiny and hard to target with taps. Redundancies with categorization and import (when they even work). No ability to mark merchants as favorites or to pin them etc. Bank disconnects weekly. No share icon for password manager to make it a little less painful. It feels like an app that isn’t 100% invested in its future and implementing things half heartedly. I have to say that, given the lack of progress over the last couple of years, I really wish Mint bought YNAB for real.
