Actually Following Our Budget

It is one thing to have a budget, but it is another thing to actually follow it. YNAB has changed the way we spend and save and we could not be more grateful for that. Only thing missing from the app is showing the title of the budget you have open and it would be great if all of he reports available in the desktop version were available on the mobile app. Overall the app is really easy to navigate and is set up so that we can use the app almost exclusively.

YNAB has done great things for my wife and I. We are huge YNAB believers. The new app is great, and basically eliminates the need for a desktop. Keep the improvements rolling, YNAB team!
Liberating!

Simple! Practical! Liberating! I got into YNAB about 5 months ago after finding some YNAB articles online that appealed to me. I love the simple and practical approach to budgeting which lines up with your life goals and values. I’ve already saved so much and am due to pay down my enormous student loan debt (Med school...) YEARS earlier than I ever dreamed! You won’t regret using the YNAB method.
Great system, poor engineering

I love YNAB, but the software quality on iOS has declined dramatically. The iPad app *still* does not support split screen and now only works in landscape. I hit UI bugs on iOS devices all the time. So sad to ruin such a useful program with such poor software engineering.

YNAB Review Having used bookkeeping software for decades, and being a user of Quicken since it was introduced on DOS years ago, I am used to thinking like a bookkeeper and controlling every little detail of my books. As of the last year, using Quicken has become both drudgery and a buggy pain in the neck. I am tired of wrestling with its quirky UI, functionality and reconciliation process. I decided it was time to find something else. I tried everything and wasn’t happy with anything. I had avoided YNAB because it looked too “dumbed down.” Little did I realize that I was depriving myself. YNAB takes all of the complexity and burden out of both bookkeeping and budgeting. It’s beautifully polished web user interface and iOS app, are a joy to use. With little effort, I am not only keeping records I can report on at tax time, but training myself to be more aware of what I spend, improving both my budgeting and cashflow. At first, I tried to import historic data to start from the beginning of the year, but that quickly wrapped me around the axel. Weird things happened to my numbers and I just didn’t want to fight with it. So, I thought YNAB just wouldn’t work for me, but I decided I couldn’t give up this beauty of an application. After all, I still have everything flowing into Mint and Personal Capital as backups. (Always have a Plan B!) So, I can get my first quarter numbers from there for the first year after the switch. Once I set my head right, YNAB was a no brainer. It’s a beautiful solution that I am really enjoying using. With a 30-day free trial, what have you got to lose? Try it. I bet you’ll like it.

Terrific app that has the potential to change the way you think and radically adjust your habits. Well worth the investment to learn it and do it right. My wife and I used it to retire all our debt and completely rebuild the way we think and talk about our budget, what we are spending, and what our future goals are. A great complement to the Dave Ramsey approach if you are a fan. The developers have been very thoughtful and responsive with changes over time (I’ve had it for several years). This is a very robust and secure platform in my experience.

Intuitive, simple, helpful. I had reservations about a budgeting app, but this thing has saved our financial lives. We budget every dollar and can make adjustments on the fly, we feel like we have more money even though we haven't gotten a raise and my wife and I don't fight about money anymore! We had a hiccup where the connection to our bank got messed up but YNAB app support responded quick and gracefully showed me that it was my fault the hiccup happened to begin with. Well worth the $, we will use this for a long time.
