A serious tool for serious writers.

I wasted money on too many apps over the years, looking for Ulysses. I’ve been using Ulysses since version 1.0.2 came out around 2013 if I remember right. I’ve used it across 3 iPhones, 2 iPads, and 2 MacBook Pros in that time across multiple operating systems and countless app updates. It would not be an exaggeration to say that I’ve spent many thousands of hours writing on Ulysses over the years. It has been a joy seeing it progress over the years. I do not remember ever having an issue with Ulysses. I’ve also never updated my OS on any device until Ulysses/my critical apps had also updated to be compatible. I've always used iCloud. Too much lag and sync errors with Dropbox. The main gripe I see is with the subscription model. This is a serious tool for serious writers. Most serious apps have the same model. Outside of Grammarly and Hemingway for editing, this is the only app I use to write with. I pay for those as well. I don’t mind supporting companies I believe in. All of my formatting is with markup in Ulysses. Going from Pages or Scrivener to Ulysses is like going from the cockpit of a 747 to a Tesla. In Ulysses all the controls disappear, and I can just write. It's clean and simple. There is nothing to distract me. That has been critical over the years. I seriously don’t know what I’d do without Ulysses. Crypt.ee is my fallback should the day ever come. It has a good free option if money is an issue for you.

Keeps skipping to next sheet as if on a timer.

Problem with latest update. I can write for only about 2 minutes before the app abruptly jumps to the next sheet in the group as if the sheets were slides on a timer. I’ve been using this app daily for over a year with no issues, until now. Not sure if it’s the latest iOS release or Ulysses release. I just bought a new iPhone 11 pro and I wasn’t having this problem on the iPhone 10. It could be any if the above. Please fix. This app has been my workhorse. Update. Deleted and reinstalled app. That fixed the problem. Updated review from 2 to 4 stars.

3 happy years

i started with CopyWright softaware. Switched to Scrivener. And 3 years ago came to Ulysses. And I am happy

Apples sneaky purchases

Another app that uses iTunes to scam their money out after free usage to see if you want to buy. You can cancel somewhere but even Apple won’t even tell you if you forget or don’t read all the information. These apps to give you 3060 or 90 day free trial should always always ask you for your credit card after those days are done. These apps very very simple apps and the really retarded ones are making millions and billions along with Apple through this process I am going to do anything nonstop try to figure out how to fix this. My little nieceOr on my phone play a simple game clicked on an app that she would like some stupid Phone app and I have been charged twice for $49 in the last two years and didn’t even know about it 100 bucks for a app that I never even knew I had all my God I can’t think of anything stupider That my money could’ve been spent other than a stupid alarm clock phone.

The Ulysses App truly helped me focus and concentrate my work with multiple levels of organization and cross device syncing. I used to write in the Notes app, but I wanted more organization and efficiency in the writing process. Ulysses delivered these features and more. I recommend this App to anyone just beginning their writing journey or other professionals looking for ease in their own process too. Thanks, Ulysses and I’ll keep you in mind for consideration in my future bestseller.

Basic note taking with a subscription

FeaganMox

Besides the organizational feature there’s nothing that sets this app apart from other free note taking apps. Might be more interested if it was available for a one time fee but it’s only subscription based which isn’t really justified by its use or features. Just another cash grab app.

Great on Mac

AppClarity

But extremely slow to load on an iPhone SE with a good size library since iOS 11 or so ... waiting up to 20 seconds to access my library is an exercise in unreasonable patience. Therefore not at all good for jotting quick thoughts, so finally decided it was time to delete it from my phone. Unfortunate, because in earlier versions used to be one of my favorite apps for writing/note-taking. Also Ulysses has no Apple Watch app to see/create notes on the go ... On the contrary Bear notes with thousands of notes loads up in a heartbeat and offers an Apple Watch app. It has its limitations, but it is swift. If Ulysses ever addresses this and speeds up the load times **considerably** I will review it again ... but for now I must regrettably say farewell.

Useless

unkown missing

Needed write documents just popup subscriptions fees ,

Total ripoff.

Tomcat-2011

Paid full price for this app, the developers decided to change the license for a subscription without telling us the users, or at least keeping our previous license. I found this really unacceptable and a total ripoff, never seen tactics like this from any other developer. Other developers at least let you keep your previous license and apps, for example Scrivener, they have a better model, releasing mayor updates as new versions. So even if you don’t want to update you can keep your previous software. Apple shouldn’t allow this type of schemes from developers, a real shame.
