Irritating ads

Smart News now has added ads that randomly pop while you are reading an article. The screen turns black accept for the ad. There is no way to close the ad and go back to the article except to hit the back button and then press on the story again. This happened three times while I was trying to read an article. I never did get to finish the article. It is very irritating.
SmartNews and being blind using voiceover

This app used to work great with voiceover on iOS, but over the last year it has deteriorated with voiceover and is now difficult to navigate. When you open the app, and it refreshes and updates all stories, when flicking from left to right from the top you get one or two stories then it repeats the second story over and over again. You have to then tap the bottom of the screen and come up from the bottom to keep being able to move down through the story threads. Plus there are a lot of items that just are not labeled and voiceover has no idea what they are so that means the user has no idea what they are. Are used to really enjoy this app but not as much anymore.

Mostly clickbait National Enquirer type stuff with just a dash of interesting informative articles. Looking for another app that has more of a focus on news news and not celebrity and “life hack” news.

Starting writing a detailed review but then it glitched out and deleted everything. This app used to be good and now it’s terrible. Time to find something that’s similar to how this app used to be.

The ads have ruined the app. First, their were tasteless static ads that required attempting to scroll so as not to have to see them while READING. Next came full screen pop up ads that interfered with the flow of READING. And now there dynamic action ads that jump and twirl and flash that are extremely disrupting while READING. It’s more than a nuisance, it’s an assault on the brain. Perhaps someone should research the conditions most conducive to the joy of reading. It was great while it lasted. I loved you, bye.

I’m really tired of having covid updates forced on me everywhere. It’s one thing to see it in the news articles, and another to be forced to see a constant barrage of all the updated numbers at the top of the app. You shouldn’t force this on users. Give us the option to opt out please.
