This is a MUST HAVE APP

WidgetGuy

This is a MUST HAVE APP for any musician whether you are a professional or just learning. I have been using OnSong since mid 2010. I was introduced to it by a fellow musician who I have great respect for. He said “buy it and if you’re not happy, I’ll reimburse you for the cost.” Needless to say, I could only thank him. OnSong has so many “make your life easier” features it would take me pages to praise them all. But I will say, OnSong has eliminated the need for me to carry binders full of charts and deal with windy days while performing outdoors. Have you ever shown up to a gig and all of a sudden they let you know that we’re playing in a different key and it’s a complicated piece? Not to worry, OnSong transposes on the fly and with the ability to change font size and color, it’s a whole new world. The Auto Scroll feature tracks the song in real-time and it only takes a second to setup. I use AirTurn so my hands are now free when I need to turn pages and it’s effortless. I also use OnSon Console on my Mac when I am writing or just and to cleanup charts imported from other sources like Ultimate Guitar. I have added hundreds of songs and even custom organized them. I have set lists organized for venue, event, genre etc. If it was any easier, I wouldn’t even need to show up. In short, treat yourself to a totally great experience.

Lost songs

Onsong gone

I have had this app for years and I had written 22 sets of lyrics which disappeared. I contacted the company to which they stated that I was a new member and it was only now that you could backup and save songs. Make sure you screen shot all lyrics so you have a hard copy.

Sneaky subscription only tools

FMSB

One of the reasons I choose this app was for the annotation tool. After paying the full price for the app, I discovered that those tools along with several others were only available in the monthly/yearly subscription account, which was mentioned nowhere at all in this expensive $30 base app description in the App Store. Very disappointing.

Looks promising. Lacks the ability to import a collection of PDF files from another app. That would be really useful for those of us with several large collections. Importing 500 pdf's one at a time is a pain. Sad to see annotations require a subscription. I do not subscribe to software. Either I purchase or move on.

Is poor

Because I can’t import pictures or images photo to Onsong, I contact a lot no answer my emails

Used to be a 4 star app

kuroihyo

While I disliked the fact that I needed an iOS device to use OnSong, I was pleased to get it when I got an iPad as a reward from work. Functionality was solid, but not perfect. However, now, as others have stated, functionality that used to be present with the purchase of the app, specifically drawing, is no longer available without a $50/year subscription. As others have also stated, I have no need for the other premium “features” as a musician. I have chord charts with drawings and annotations on them, but the “restore purchases” feature does nothing. The app still works, but I definitely have a sour taste in my mouth about this “improvement,” and will definitely start guiding people away from this app instead of toward it. Beginning anew the search for an alternative.

Do not buy

OnSong did not connect to their additional Console app. My requests were ignored by OnSong support. I issued several trouble requests over several days. When OnSong finally replied, they instructed me to wipe the Network Settings in my brand new iPad. This made the iPad useless and unable to connect to any WiFi. This was not repairable by me. I had to return the iPad. I strongly advise NO on this app. Additional after OnSong demied responsibility: OnSong LLC: Thank you for your prompt reply. Easily, four to five times faster than your support staff ever replied. And there were no spam filters or email server issue here – perhaps yours is faulty? I’ll be clearer about the problems I encountered with your software and support staff. Immediately after purchasing Console, I received a registration email from you. This email contained a link, which you asked me to click to verify this registration. I clicked that link. Then opened Console, and WAS able to connect. But the next time I tried to use Console, it would not connect. I eventually tried re-opening that registration email and again clicking the verify link. THEN Console WOULD connect. Every time I wanted to connect Console, I had to re-open that email and click that verify link. This was a hassle, and I notified your support staff. As stated in my previous review, your staff ignored my issue for quite a while. I issued another request, and it was ignored again. I issued another request, your support staff finally replied, but they did not understand what I was describing. (Contained in their initial reply was “What email?”) After more emails and more support requests, they FINALLY understood that I had to re-open the email and click the verify link EVERY TIME I wanted to connect to Console. Then two things happened: 1) the link no longer enabled me to connect with Console. The verify link stopped working. 2) they directed me to do this: “Please try rebooting your web browser (on your computer) while trying to connect. You can do this by tapping the shift key on your keyboard and the refresh button (by the URL section) on the browser. It'll reboot you page and you should be able to connect. If not, try going into your devices (iPad) settings app > general > reset > reset network > follow prompts > open OnSong > Console > enable and make sure you are using the same URL provided.” The silly suggestion about tapping the shift key did nothing. So I did their second suggestion. As you can see in their instructions they did did NOT offer any warning such you state in your message to me. “which we do warn will automatically forget stored network passwords if performing this step” The result was the iPad was NOT ABLE to connect to the WIFI router. It denied the password every time, though the password was 100% correct. I tried with a neighbor’s router, but that router denied the password also. I googled the issue and found MANY youtube videos and forums from MANY people with this issue. This rendered my iPad inert. I will repeat: your OnSong and Console apps are flaky, your support staff is inept, and your support staff’s instructions caused my brand new iPad to become useless. I additionally request a 100% refund for the cost I paid for OnSong and Console. If I’m able I will make this request to Apple also. One more thing. In the OnSong reply to this review was a link to "contact the developer." That link does not provide any way to contact a developer. OnSong is irresponsible.

Updated review: workaround for iOS 14

LdySunshine

Update: Developer was very helpful in providing help to get iOS 14 devices up & running again. Must enable the local network setting. Thank you for the fast response! Original: So this hasn’t been updated since May, and considering it was updated monthly until then, that’s very concerning. Now that iOS 14 is out, I can’t open the app. CRASHES IMMEDIATELY UPON OPENING. I use this app every week for church and this is completely UNACCEPTABLE.
