Blackout

Tried to get service because I keep getting blackouts. Paid the extra fo fast service. Non existence.

I am in love with OnSong!!

Paula Douglass

I have been using OnSong for several years and I absolutely love it. I saw a couple of reviews saying there are too many features as if this were a negative thing. You can never have too many features. I would rather have the it and not need it than need it and not have it. This is one of the things I love about this app. It caters to the simplest of demands or to the most techno savvy user without one interfering with the other, so as you progress in your OnSong knowledge and comfort, there always are more features for you to explore. You can create a simple song library for you to browse through as needed, or you can use that same library to create a set list which operates as simple as turning the page of a book. If you want to get fancy you can add a Bluetooth pedal to turn your pages for you while keeping your hands free. You can either share this list or print it for band mates or sound technicians. You can add a scroll, backing tracks, notes, comments, etc. too many for me to mention. I do not typically write reviews, so for me to do so means I feel very strongly about this app. If you are thinking of getting it and you are reading reviews to get reassurance, then stop here, buy OnSong and don’t look back. You won’t regret it!!

Love this app, Must have for any band

Roksinger

Been using this app for about 5 years now. Creating set lists, auto scrolling the lyrics are a breeze. Looks much more professional than paper lyrics or 3 ring binder.

Blackout

☹️?

All the sudden after six months of use the app has stopped working. All I get now is a black screen with the menu at the top of the screen. None of the menu items work and after almost a minute the app closes itself out. I loved this app before this happened. I hope someone fixes the issue quickly.

Extremely dissapointed

joeldadrummer

If I had spent $4.99 on this I probably wouldn't be so dissapointed. I was really excited for the key changing feature, and for finding songs/charts on the internet by other users, but for $30 (the most I've ever spent on an IOS app) this has been a big waste of money and time. I asked for a refund but Apple won't do that, so here are a few of the Problems: 1)Nothing imports properly. PDF's all show up garbled when trying to extract text. 2) TXT files - nothing can be imported without large amounts of editing within the painfully slow editor. Metadata often doesn't work for some reason, and I need to manually re-enter it all, or use the metadata editor. 3)The editor is really painstaking. There is supposed a handy 'recent' items at top, but they don't even include a colon (a very common part of their chart format) so I have to dig for it everytime I need it, and I can't believe there is no easy way to just click on the words you want to be a header (or chords) and have them change them. 4)I try to edit my old charts in text editor or word on my computer (and save as text) but nothing looks remotely the same when It gets brought into Onsong, and the whole thing looks messed up and requires a LOT of editing inside the app. 5)Transposing. Why would Onsong transpose an E/G# to a D/Gb when it shoud clearly be D/F#? It uses enharmonic transpostions that are not in the actual chords. I don't know any musician that would write (or want to read) a slash chord using enharmonic notes not in the actaul chord. Overall I was hoping this app would save me a lot of time, but it's just created a lot more wasted time trying to convert and organise charts. I spent 3 hours on two charts last night, and they still don't look the way I would like. The 'internet' search for songs (which I was hoping for) pulls up a riduclous amount of garbage charts with wrong chords etc, and when choosing there is no way to see what you are getting. The import from other internet sites has been just as awful. For $30 this is disappointing. I already have other PDF reader setlist apps (fourscore) and I certainly didn't want to just buy another one. So far it's much faster just to write my own charts in a word or even a text editor and manually change the key myself.

Insufficient documentation

Peterguzinya

I’d like to use the MIDI editor, but there’s insufficient documentation on how to use it and more importantly what it can’t do. Example, I want to do program changes to my Yamaha Montage and if I want a bank other than General Midi, it doesn’t make the change. I also had to waste a lot of time getting it to work with my Bluetooth midi interface. Update: Although I figured out the reason I could not change patches on my Montage and I have viewed the videos, I still maintain my original title. What I’ve also learned is that it isn’t just OnSong lacking in their documentation, Yamaha is also to blame. In addition, OnSong support is also lacking. You don’t get the folks who really know the product, but rather a messenger. I guess I’m just old school as a retired IT specialist of 43+ years. Update #2: Learned the Developer’s lack experience in system design and user interface. This application has amazing potential. My hope is that one day, they will spend some time with SME’s (subject matter experts). Fundamentally, those who would love to exploit its amazing features. Everyone in our band uses it on our iPads. I have bumped the stars by 1.

Promises promises

ThisOtherPerson

Importing double byte characters in a Word document fails and yields gibberish. The app SERIOUSLY needs to support two columns layouts both internally Update: with all the promises to “someday” provide an update that provides two column layouts, still YEARS later no visible effort to make it happen. Meanwhile all kinds of features I can’t use. I can only use the most basic features of displaying a chart and I have to convert it to a pdf to do it. It’s only basically useable for me. I have supported this app buying every version, add on and feature but this developer has their own agenda to bloat this app with “everything else”. Really frustrating. Update: 7/13/2019. STILL No support for multi column. All these “great features” no one has requested but this one huge request is STILL in the wind”. I even offered to beta test and I review the betas as they are dropped, but this feature seems to be a non-important. PLEASE can you focus on doing whatever needs to be done so we can have this crucial feature??

Amazing game changing App!

former apple

We have a band of 3 retired guys who play gigs using backing tracks (for the missing instruments). We previously used OnCue to play the backing tracks and had paper copies of the chord/lyric sheets (we're old, so we need the memory aid!). Onsong has completely changed the way we play. We no longer have abbreviated chord sheets (i.e. Verse - C G7 F, etc., then Verse; Verse; Chorus; etc.) and can play along with the lyrics and chords without having to do mental gymnastics. And it plays our custom backing tracks so we don't need a separate app for that. Really amazing piece of software and well worth the price! Update - A few times there have been issues (bugs) in releases (happens to all software). These guys have been extremely responsive in troubleshooting and fixing the bugs. Wish all developers were as responsive. Again this is an awesome app that has forever changed (improved) the way we perform!

Great app, bad tech support

Lvdan49

I love the app and all you can do with it but if you have a problem like I did, (a few songs would not trigger Beat Buddy correctly), expect to be put off indefinitely. It’s been over two weeks since I asked for help. I paid the 1.99 for “fast track” assistance only to be told my diagnostics didn’t go through... try again. I tried again. It’s been one week now. Just this evening I sent it again with “fast track”. We will see what happens now.

Overall good except the update glitch

Mrsford0628

After I updated, the connected iPads don’t auto scroll with the main iPad anymore. Used to work perfectly. It can only skip to the next song with the main iPad. Tried uninstalling the app, restart all the iPads but nothing worked. Hopefully this will be fixed soon.
