Solid 5 star purchase on both the Protect and the thermostat. The app is phenomenal and looking to add the camera.

The nest thermostat temperature sensor has a limited value for homeowners like myself. This sensor can’t work in tandem with your Nest thermostat, rather only one of them can control your furnace at a time. If you designate the sensor as the controlling thermostat, the other thermostat will not be considered. I bought it hoping that I could monitor a cold crawlspace to make sure that temperatures did not go below freezing. Although the sensor can report cold temperatures, it cannot command temperatures below 50°. This thermostat sensor would attempt to keep my crawlspace no lower than 50° which would mean my house would probably be at 85 or 90 degrees. Therefore, if you are looking for something that will provide freeze protection by turning on the heat in extremely cold temperatures you are out of luck with this device.

The home away assistant thing doesn’t work. Says I’m not home when I’m right here. App has all permissions it requested and even background sync. About one in four times it doesn’t work

This is a cool gadget. However multiple times a week the temperature will drop to the mid 60s when I am home. I check the app on my phone and the nest thinks that I’m away from the house. All three cell phones are at the house so I’m not sure what the problem is. It is cool to be able to change the temperature with your phone. I just wish the rest of it would work.

still use this because the Protext is still the best and kinda the only good smart thermostat. otherwise everything Google does is garbage.

I have two nest thermostats one in my home one in my shop. The one in the home is great. The shop has a few shortcomings. My main issue is you cannot schedule a temperature lower than 50°. What I do to get around this is turn the thermostat off with the app when I’m not out there. It will default to the safety temperature I set it at 35°. If I left my shop at 50° it would waste an enormous amount of propane to maintain that temperature. RIgby Idaho

Highly recommend. Use 2.4g Wi-Fi you’ll thank me later. This unit has helped me keep hearing and cooling costs down tremendously.
