I’ve used the Google Authenticator for years for many different MFA functions for various personal logins and began using it for work at a new job a couple months ago. Back when I downloaded the app, it was highly rated. So I thought nothing of utilizing the same Authenticator for work. Boy, was that a mistake. Today, the app decided to randomly delete ALL my accounts without prompt or warning. I opened it to use a code for login purposes to find that none of my accounts are there. This has essentially locked me out of a lot of my work accounts and now I’m having to work with my company’s IT to get them all reestablished. I have started using the Microsoft Authenticator and so far it is a lot better, especially since there is a way to backup your logins and there’s a security feature to even use the app (requires your passcode or Face ID upon app open). Microsoft isn’t paying me though, so definitely try out a few *highly rated* apps and figure out which will suit you best. But definitely avoid Google’s app. If you do have an issue with really any Google product, don’t bother going to Google Customer Service for support. They have no solutions because Google does not care to maintain or fix any of their products. Check the Google help forums and you’ll see dating back to 2019 that people have had a similar issue as me happen to them with the Authenticator, and in 3 years there is still no fix for that. All they’ll say is that you’ll have to manually set up the accounts again. This is the type of “support” you’ll get for most Google products. I think I’m stuck with Gmail and YouTube, but I’m definitely looking to replace any and every Google product after this.

No one will help me retrieve my info and it is tied to some of my work accounts. I’d really like some help retrieving my information because my phone was stolen. No way for me to get a QR code from my old device.

My iPhone got stolen and there's no way to recover my authentication accounts. I'm lucky that I only used it for three or four websites. Anyway, there's no way to recover if your phone is damaged or stolen and you need to backup everything to a new phone.
