Great ANKI, but inferior on iOS, iPad

BRNGBRNG

Windows version is better than iOS version as a making tool. Ankidroid is much better than iOS ANKI as a playing tool. Look at the free TTS, third party apps including PLECO, mobile-friendly design on Ankidroid. Finally, I bought a Windows device and probably I am gonna buy an Android or Chrome OS tablet because of these. iOS version seems like only for collecting money by taking adventage of Apple system with no apk file, less hack but more functions on free are in other OS versions. And it does not happen only on Anki. This is like a trend of studying apps. I feel iPad is getting less valuable in this point as a studying tool. Paid functions here are free ones there. Existing functions there does not exist here.

Bug...

There’s a glitch when i look up a word by using the plugged-in iOS dictionary. Then it stops working, and i have to close the app and reopen it again.

Best $25 I’ve ever spent

Kingjameska

I used to try to use flash cards and notes but often never got around to studying them. I resisted using technology for studying for a long time. I felt like God told me to give Anki a second try. I now study twice as much and I am 4x more efficient. This is probably the best money I’ve ever spent. I make most of the cards on my laptop and I would recommend using YouTube tutorials before getting started. There’s a bit of a learning curve but it’s well worth the investment!

Great but Pen support could be more

Samrat221b

WIth increase in use of apple pencil in ipads, the pencould be made more functinal. One thing I would love would be the ability to draw on the cards at the time of review. That would be a game changer.

I want my money back...

...angel.devil...

So I had this app on my regular computer, it was working ok, I found it hard to navigate in general. Downloaded the app bc I need to get something done to my computer, it’s so freaking expensive for an app, and I have encountered sooooo many problems with it. First, it takes a million years to sync, and then the syncing doesn’t even work right! You have to have the computer program in order to organize the decks and cards.. and then my previous cards lost all of there media!! All of it! I was like ok, fine I’ll just redownload the whole freaking deck and reorganize it ...and guess what? I finished what I was doing and it synced... I look on both the app and my computer and all of my cards disappeared... I am beyond frustrated. It was over 14,000 flash cards... I’m in Medical school, I don’t have time to keep downloading and reorganizing and waiting for it sync.... I know other people like this app, and good for them, but to me, it is not worth the hassle. Even people that like it, say it is hard to navigate as well.

Have to pay on iPadOS and iOS

Xtreme critique

I want to use Anki on my phone, tablet, and laptop but you have to pay for Anki on your phone AND on the tablet. I do not like having to pay $25 on two devices.

Why can't recite from the beginning in order

Limitations are frustrating

arsenius

Although I’m still using it, the limitations are frustrating considering the price. Can’t edit card templates, so you have to flip your cards on the desktop. Interface is workable but could be made better with just a little effort. The scheduler is not optimal: It seems to schedule learning/relearning cards (red) after reviews. If I change the interval modifier it doesn’t change the number of cards for review. I believe it changes the interval for subsequent reviews. The same cards tend to appear grouped together over time, which serves as an undesired hint.

Thanks for the Backup feature!

ChipChesterton00000000

I accidentally lost all my progress in a synchronization error (I hit download instead of upload). Fortunately, the app keeps copious backups of progress and restoring one is trivial (Settings > Backups). Huuuuge thanks to the developers that built that feature. The app has otherwise been great. Has all kinds of features that I haven’t tried to use, too.

Overly complicated and unintuitive.

I really wanted to like this app, and the ideas behind it are great but it is sorely lacking in user experience design. I bought it in order to use latex markup in flash cards but after hours of trying to get this feature to work in the desktop version, and syncing to mobile, I gave up and just made paper cards. After all, I have class work to do instead of trying to master how Anki works. Before buying this mobile version, give the desktop version a serious trial and make sure you can work with the very strange workflow that it requires of you. This app needs flash cards of its own to understand how it is supposed to work, it is extremely unintuitive. By far the most expensive app I have ever bought and I’m not very satisfied with it.
