Impressive for battery life and features

I got this for trail running and have been extremely happy so far. Loading routes from GPX and downloading maps works smoothly, the screens are well-designed by default and easy to tweak, and GPS accuracy is good. Strava export is seamless. The most pleasant surprise was that this used less battery than the Strava watch app on 40-60 minute runs, even using the map to navigate unfamiliar trails. Highly recommend. I’m holding off on a high end Garmin watch now that I have this.

Very detailed, great value

Highly recommended. Has pretty much everything you could want from a fitness tracker app. I’ve used it for cycling but am looking forward to testing it for backpacking and traveling. I love how incredibly customizable the screen layouts are, allowing you go choose basically anything you could want to have available at a glance during an activity. You can also auto export your workouts to Strava. The only thing I wish were better is the UI—but considering this is a one man operation I can understand why it’s a big rough around the edges aesthetically speaking. In the end, functionality is all that really matters and this thing is functional as hell!

Best hiking GPS app for Apple Watch

jake Borrelli

Needed a rock solid GPS app for hiking mountains, after trying just about all of the others, this is by far the best. The customer service and response time blew me away, any and every question was handled and taken care of literally within minutes. If you need something for your hikes and also like to support hard working App designers, look no further. Trust me.

The best running app hands down!!!

I am not usually one to leave a review, but this app is the best and the best deserves a review. I have gone back and forth with Apple Watch over the years and ultimately always return to Garmin for the superior data they provide during runs. I decided to come back to Apple Watch with the Series 6 and was watching a runner’s vlog on YouTube where he reviewed his new Apple Watch but concluded like I always did that the Garmin gave him what he needed and Apple Watch fell short. Well one of the comments said check out WorkOutDoors. So I did and WOW is all I can say. Fully customizable watch screens with tons of data. Everything I always wanted and now it’s even better than what my Garmin provided. Auto-syncing with Strava is a nice bonus as well!!

Love this app , makes the Apple Watch on par or better than any outdoor app out , especially for Hiking

Best workout app I’ve ever used

Steef305

This app has it all, and I am sad that I did not hear about it earlier. I used to use the native Apple Watch workout feature, which is great, but missing a lot of features that I wanted to see. You can customize the screens to show the data that is most important to you, and swipe left or right to switch between screens. As a runner who has a hard time staying in “zone” heart rate targets, the option to have haptic/audio alerts when I reach a certain heart rate has been incredible for keeping my effort in check. It’s one of the most underrated apps I’ve ever used and for that, it deserves my first ever app review. Thank you Ian for making such an amazing product.

Has some glitches

mbchamb

Love the app. I've used the app and an Apple watch for a couple of years almost every day, while running. Three times the watch and phone have stopped talking. Ultimate solution is to uninstall and reinstall to both. Workouts saved to Apple Fitness and Strava. Its a bummer to repeat this. We'll see if it works tomorrow. History lost

Awesome

Love the off-line maps tracking export features I do wish it had a topographical version of Maps rather than just open roads as I use my apple watch for back country skiing

Not compatible with Audible

nickname8000

I enjoy listening to audiobooks during my runs, but unfortunately this app’s voice alerts will pause the book’s audio. (Ideally I could choose to pause/resume or duck the audio.) If you turn off voice alerts, the haptic ones are confusingly similar and too frequent by default. Most of my workout was spent wondering if I was above target pace, or if I had just finished a lap (spoiler: I messed up my laps because of this). The only manageable setting is to turn off all alerts except distance. It also doesn’t allow mixing units, like 1mi warmup with 400m repeats, which is helpful for track workouts. Finally there’s no way to turn off custom screens on interval workouts and just use the default screens. This means if you have a lot of workouts programmed and you want to update the metrics on screen, you need to reprogram and reupload all of them.
