Edit: The developer replied didn’t even read my review. I said I already spoke to Trust & Safety about this endlessly. Thumbtack’s money-back guarantee has exclusions for nearly everything, it seems. It doesn’t cover fraud and it doesn’t cover theft. Thumbtack matched me up with an individual whose background check is for a deceased person. They damaged and stole equipment, and after a days-long conversation with Thumbtack’s “Trust and Safety” department, they finally say that theft and fraud aren’t covered by their guarantee. This added insult to injury. They could have said this up front, but instead they wasted my time and theirs by requesting all sorts of documentation when it turns out it was clear to Thumbtack from my initial contact that they weren’t interested in helping. I’m out $ four figures directly from this incident, I lost a day of work dealing with the lying service provider, I missed a deadline because they couldn’t complete the project, and I’ve had a couple nightmares after the service provider chose to artfully describe my violent demise rather than completing the simple project he was hired for. All of this — including the threats — was in writing, by the way! Thumbtack doesn’t even have a record of the physical address used for the background check and I don’t have the guy’s last name, so it would be nearly impossible to serve him legal papers. I’m sure there are good providers on here but there are also violent scams, and Thumbtack’s blanket statement that you’re protected against property damage, etc. amounts to a lie in many situations, including all situations where the provider doesn’t try to complete their contract. Use at your own risk. ?
