Worse and worse and still worse

Fnldibs

Now, not only do your pages load slowly and repeatedly crash due to your annoying ads and tacky graphics, but your Morning Briefing arrives hours later than it used to. Less lifestyle of the rich and upwardly mobile. More life. On time. Without the glitchy glitz! Another day, another crash and more molasses loading. Nice work! All the news that cannot print. I’ll use my phone to read you, or just switch to The Guardian. Probably get more depth and real news anyway.

How about a dark mode?

BigCitizen

Love the app. Just wish it had a dark mode option.

Constantly Crashing

G3dni58vsdj

Some days the app works fine, other days it eats your battery and shuts down constantly. Your best bet is to just use your browser and go to nytimes.com. Great interface but it’s unusable unfortunately

They don’t live by the principles they pretend to defend.

CapCapNY

I feel lied to and ripped off. 1/ To cancel your subscription, you have to chat with customer support, which is time consuming and unexpected. Not understanding the process and used to other subscription services’ practices, I thought I had canceled the subscription just by clicking on the button “cancel my subscription”. When I then got billed, I contacted them right away (36h after the billing cycle had started). They refused to issue a refund, tried to sell me a yearly subscription, and told me to refer to their refund policies. - How surprising for a newspaper that claims to defend consumers from shady policies nobody reads! 2/ In the same vibe of preaching what they don’t do, they dont even have their ESG score (sustainability assessment) published. As a public company with an editorial line supporting sustainable practices, it’s the least we could expect!

Home button?

Great except there’s no way to get back Home. Very frustrating, and often a reason for me to turn to other news apps instead of this one.

This is about the app design, NOT CONTENT!

Astrokal

I have no issues with the content, which is why I subscribe. Having said that, the app design is ATROCIOUS! In a quest to be “responsive” to various size devices, the app developers have created an abomination that keeps “reflowing” the content every time you try to scroll through the articles, making the app freeze up for several seconds every few seconds. It would be MUCH preferable to have a sub-optimal but stable layout, determined once per app launch. Washington Post does this really well. They should hire whoever designed the WaPo app, and fire the current team.

Disappointed

Iluvmsnbc

I really want to use this app. I pay for a subscription. I like The NY Times. Unfortunately, the app refuses to load. Or it looks like it loads but the everything suddenly disappears. Simply put, this app doesn’t work.

Hard to load and crashes often

Pikesfalls

I love the NYTimes, but this app on my iPad mini 2 takes forever to load and crashes often. It is almost unusable. Yes, this is not the latest device, but other news apps load and run just fine. I am paying a lot for this app and it shouldn’t take minutes to load, then freeze and crash. It is too loaded with animation features which should be able to be turned off. It should refresh in the background. Yes, the switch to refresh is on, but it doesn’t refresh. All the news that is fit to print, but I can’t get at it!

Too many animations on loading

pqiytr

I click on the icon and go get a cup of coffee while it loads. Please, please, please just load the info. The animations add nothing anyway.

App functionality in decline

GLW14615

Although I rely on news from The New York Times, I have to say that the app for iPad is getting worse. It takes noticeably longer to load, with more graphics, features, and ads. And once loaded, it will shift while you are reading a headline or summary as yet more features load. Some redesign is in order.
