You have to pay to have the app “scan” for your device, otherwise you need to log in and click a rescan button every time it loses the connection when you walk away, totally defeating the purpose of this app.

Bluetooth signal strength (or maybe their algorithm for reading it over time) is not stable enough for this app to be more than a nuisance. When it works it is great! It rarely works. And beyond that, because the distance detection (based on Bluetooth signal strength which fluctuates based on many variables including which laptop, which phone, the construction of the building you are in, the other interference in the air etc) is so flaky, you can get spammed with notifications on your phone (and watch if enabled). Anyway, I sent a note to support, maybe they’ll figure something out but I’m wondering if this idea is just simply ahead of it’s time (technology not ready for this design). btw: I have the purchased version) with an iPhone 8 and a mid 2015 MacBook Pro.

After researching all of the available unlock apps (many of which seem to be abandonware) to see what’s available to unlock a friend’s iMac from her iPhone, I stumbled upon Near Lock, and liked it so much, I paid for the Pro version to use on my laptop & iPhone. BTW, for anyone who hasn’t figured it out yet: long-tapping on your computer’s icon on the main page of the app is the way to lock (or unlock) your Mac: you don’t have to tap on the tiny lock icon (which takes you to a second page) to unlock it. As far as features I’d like to see added in a future update (hence why I gave it only 4/5), a “shake iPhone to lock/unlock Mac” feature would be a slick way to call up Near Lock app when the iPhone is locked, thus unlocking both iPhone and Mac with only one fingerprint scan (or locking Mac with only a shake). (Yes, I know app offers a double-knock feature, but it seems to be used to authenticate vs calling up the authentication prompt page, at which point I’d like to use fingerprint scan to unlock.) I also dinged a star since I reached out to the dev a few weeks ago, but they never got back to me (maybe his sister in the demo video managed to get into his e-mail account, & deleted my e-mail when he walked away from his laptop?).

App does not work as intended. I literally just purchased it thinking it would be better with the paid version but it didn’t make it any better. It works occasionally, but the desktop app freezes more than it works.

Worked fine for three days, but no more. Even bought the Pro version I liked it so much. Restarted my Mac and phone, cleared the Bluetooth cache, went to the now defunct website looking for help. Nothing. Two hours down the toilet. Waste of money.
