Trouble with Video upload

Laxdog08

After editing and completing a video on iMovie, I have had a difficult time opening the MOV file within this app on the phone. There has been some luck, but for the most part is has been poor. I do not recommend this product nor WD customer service to anyone.

Bad for IOS

This app is terrible. There is no albums option and the photos are just mashed together. I envision this a lot different and was hoping to get rid of “ICloud “ by Apple, but I am still unable to do that.

Passcode never works; File browsing is extremely basic

UPDATE FOR July 18, 2019 (v2.9.3, 2-Stars, iPhone XS, iOS 12.3.1): New app is certainly better than the old one. Passcode feature seems more secure, and I can appreciate the change to the iPhone’s native video player. Still think there needs to be improvements for searching and sorting files, as well as the ability to view a folder of images as tiles. Also think more parametric data needs to be shown. At the minimum I would expect date created, date added, date modified, etc. (standard Windows Explorer or Mac Finder column options). Options for additional metadata for folders of picture and video media, such as resolution, camera model, frames per second, etc. would be a real bonus. I also still think that a carry-over or comments and tags added to a file via Mac Finder should be stored on the drive and integrated into this app. After all, the My Cloud Home is heavily marketed as a Mac compatible backup solution. I expect all the time I spend commenting and tagging my media to be preserved should my original file be lost. Please consider keeping folders on the top of a list when sorting within a folder containing sub-folders, as well as an abundance of individual files. User shouldn’t have to scroll through all their files to navigate to the next sub-folder. There is an inconvenience I think needs to be addressed. Say I want to save many images or videos consecutively to the Camera Roll. Firstly, I believe there should be an option to select multiple items or bulk select the entire folder, rather than having to swipe right on each picture and select the save option. Worse yet, when I’ve swiped to and downloaded the last picture I am not able to press the ‘X’ in the top left of the screen because of the many status updates from the “Save to Camera Roll” operations. Would be cleaner if status updates would condensed into one, rather than showing up individually for each item saved (ex. “Saving Item 2 of 3, 23% complete”). Either way the updates shouldn’t prevent the user from closing out the picture viewing window. One final idea that would be a real plus would be the ability to browse unencrypted Time Machine backups. This would prevent me from having to use both Apple Time Machine and WD’s Folder Sync option. I’m convinced that this two functions running simultaneously causes issues. Another great option would be allowing the user to select files or folders to be stored locally on the device, and be available for viewing offline. ORIGINAL REVIEW April 2019 (v2.0.3, 1-Stars, iPhone XS, iOS unknown): The passcode feature always disables itself... terrible. What’s the point of a passcode if it chooses when to work? Other improvements I think are necessary: - Video player needs to be revamped. I recommend just utilizing the same player as a full screen video in Safari since this is what iPhone users are used to. Live scrubbing and skip forward/back 15 seconds are necessary. - More ways to search and filter files... it’s a backup drive, with thousands of files. We need more parametric data linked to each file (carry-over of comments and tags from Mac finder would be nice...). Name, size, data as the only sort options is pretty basic (what is “date” anyways...? Date added? Last opened? Created?) - Why can I not view just one folder in tile view? Currently the user can only see all pic/video files in tile view mode. Did they think people were going to buy 8TB+ drives for a handful of files..? Basically I think the app needs to resemble closer to Mac Finder or Windows Explorer. Use Apple provided functions where possible. It’s an iPhone app, it should feel like one.

Cannot play music inside their app

ghostinahouse

The original My Cloud and the app allowed you to play your music files within the app. The new mycloud home still does not allow you to play music from their app even with the upgrade. This is absolutely frustrating. How hard is it to make an app equal as good as their old app for their original mycloud. For that reason I still hold onto my old mycloud device/app. Please please please WD make this minor change to the my cloud home app, I’ve been waiting over a year for this.

Better, but not there yet!

The recent upgrade has some improved functions, but overall there are a few shortcomings. I’m making the most of the app, but here are my issues: ^ Whenever I go into an album, it pauses after the 20th picture, and only several seconds later will the rest of the pics load. This is really annoying to me. * I’m glad for the USB export feature, but when I do an import or export, I only have the options to “copy all” or “select files/folders”. This is misleading, because when I click on “Select Files/Folders”, I’m only able to select one of the next group or embedded folders. What if I want to select a folder that is buried inside several other folders? This doesn’t give me that option. Making this feature happen would be amazing and would make me give more stars. There are other features I would love to see, and hopefully they can be added in the future: * Have triggers for IFTTT. The action works great, but I would love a trigger (ex. If file in certain folder, then...). This would be amazing! * Have the ability to log in another user to the same app. I have two accounts, and it would be nice to be able to log into the other account without having to log off the current account. This app is much better than the mobile web version, so having multiple users (same device) would be amazing. * Allow animated GIFs (as the web version does), and a native way to play music files. Overall it’s a great concept. I love the app layout, but it’s not quite perfect yet.

The MyCloud is good however it can be a little slow at times

Open In and file sharing are still broken in this new version

stevieb93

In this new version of the app, while the new design is lovely, it’s still kind of useless. It’s missing integration with iOS’ Files app, and the sharing and “open in” function are broken. For example, if I’m trying to load up a video file in the MyCloud app, the video will load perfectly fine as a stream. But what if I don’t want to stream this video, what if I just want to download the original file, my original file on the hard drive? One would normally use the “Open In” function on this file, but the implementation you guys have in the app makes it useless. All it does is open a video stream in the VLC app that I have installed on my iPad. And if I click the option to share the file, it only gives me the option to send a link to be shared, still denying me access to the original file. There needs to be a simple “Download File” option in place, or make it easier for us to simply gain access to our files on Mobile devices. The work around is being forced to use the mobile website, which shouldn’t be necessary in 2019. These are basic features your app has been lacking for years, on a very expensive piece of hardware. It’s great to see initiative by the team with this new design, but until this core functionality is put in place or fixed, I will not be updating my star-rating.

Can you allow the dragging of the finger to select photos quickly instead tapping each photo? Mimic iOS function in the photo album.
