Time Machine Compatibility

Jerry_mc

If it is formatted to be used for Time Machine, the hard disk won’t be read properly when you plug it directly to My Cloud Disk.

Unstable App!

FMFDoc

I’ve used this app now for about six months and I have noticed that the more data you have on the hard drive, the more unstable the app is. It has promise, but right now it is frustrating to have the app crash and close as you are searching through your content.

Poor iOS integration

David A. Goldfarb

I bought the WD MyCloud Duo with the hopes of having my own big cloud server, accessible from all my devices, just like Dropbox or OneDrive or iCloud, but with more space and no subscription fees. It connects well enough to our PCs, but file handling is cumbersome from an iPad or iPhone. I want to be able to edit MS Word documents on my iPad and my PC and even my iPhone without having to make a copy of the document and then transfer it back to my MyCloud Home server. With OneDrive, it’s all the same file, I close it on one device, and I open it on another device, and I’m not creating duplicate versions that can become confused later. I want to transfer sheet music PDFs to the ForScore app directly, but the only way to do that is to send them from MyCloud to another cloud service like dropbox, and open them from there. I’d like to share files with a work group that uses many different devices, like we do currently with Dropbox and Slack, but it’s too inefficient if we can’t just click on an audio or video or DOC file and open it.

Gifs don't play!

Gif files are separated from the rest of the images in the image view but what's worst of all is that the gifs do not play! Please fix this!

Poor functionality and options

TapND

The app still thinks I have a photo to upload and it continues to have a badge icon of 1 even after reinstalling / restarting. There is no way for me to see the queue of files to see where it is hanging up. Posted on the forums and no response from WD. No options available to select which photo albums on your phone you want to actually backup so the app is now backing up my main album and photo stream duplicating photos on the My Cloud Home. Again posted with no response. It seems like a slapped together app to provide remedial functionality. App hasn’t been updated in 3 months even though there are bugs and feature requests on the forums. Disappointing from such a large and well known company.

Mediocre user experience

kmarsafawi

A - Bugs: 1-Notification number on iOS app constantly shows number 4. 2-Swiping from the edge of the screen does not navigate back to previous page in all app pages. 3-Device does not backup to any device if there’s a streaming session to chrome cast. B - Feature Requests 1-Cannot search by time period. Entering June does not show pics from this time. 2-Some smart caching can help achieve better user experience. 3-Not able to search by geolocation for photos & videos. 4-Swiping down while previewing photos does not exit the preview mode (like iOS photos app)

Lacking

Let me start by saying that this app does a few things right. It has Touch ID as a feature that can be enabled, it shows recently added files which is nice to be able to check, and it has options to restart the my cloud home. It also seems to function with no major flaws and has the ability to add folders and move files. While those fronts are covered, the interface for viewing videos is quite lacking. Rather than just use Apple’s standard iOS video interface, WD elected to include their own video playback interface. And let me say, it is pretty bad! All you get is a slider to go through videos. You cannot skim, because it does not pull up the video until you stop moving the slider, and there are no 15 second skip forward or backward buttons. WD attempted to provide an option to lessen the video quality for better playback, but I am still not very sure that that really helps much. I wish WD had just used the standard Apple interface, or, allowed us the choice of which one to use. When creating folders or moving items the app can also be a bit sluggish. It would be nice if it operated more smoothly and responsively. Beyond these app issues, there is also a major and glaring issue that WD has not addressed with these devices: they offer no 2-step verification for the My Cloud home account. So, if someone steals your account password, there is no additional layer to protect sensitive data from being stolen. You would think that this would be one of the first things to have 2-step verification considering the likelihood that customers will put all kinds of sensitive data on these drives. I am astounded that this is not yet a feature! I hope that WD will listen to my feedback and make some changes in the near future! They can certainly do better with this app and the My Cloud Home features!

It’s 2018! Get it right.

wisest of the wise

I read about the hardware but not about this app, big mistake. Doesn’t do what I bought it for and the sales clerk was of no help where I bought it. iOS is a major os and the integration is so lacking as to be unbelievable. Really WD, are you listening?

No files integration??

ruzzara

Why on earth doesn’t this have integration with the iOS Files app?? This is a must have!
