Pretty Good

The set up took some trial and error, but after that it works pretty good. I would like to see HomeKit integration and moods accessible from 3D Touch menu when I’m on the home screen. I would also like to be able to access the moods right when I open the app but that is not a big deal.

Easy setup. Very happy so far.

One of the easiest connected devices I have setup. Pairing phone with the base station was very trivial (only required scanning a QR code with phone). Setting up remote and bulb was also easy. There is no noticeable lag when changing bulb intensity or color from app. Need to now see how long the system works reliably. Am a happy customer at the moment.

Some quirks but so far so good.

The TRÅDFRI system seems to work as advertised. I had some issues pairing the remote to the gateway, but once I found that *I* was the problem it went smoothly from there. The app doesn’t seem to handle switching from the background well as it frequently asks to reconnect to the gateway by scanning the barcode, but a quick closure of the app (by removing it from the app switcher) fixes that. It would be nice to have full color control instead of being locked into the presets, and adding some functionality such as syncing timers and moods with sunrise and sunset would be neat, but neither are deal breakers. I’m looking forward to HomeKit integration, which is supposedly coming soon, but all in all, I’m happy with the lights (and the app).

Needs work

I have to give one star because the app keeps crashing, takes forever for the app to start up, crashes, and forgets my gateway often. The app has a nice layout, but I suggest that a dimming/brightness slider with the three “mood” circle buttons right next to it for that specific bulb. From the current layout, I see how you want to separate the different groups of lights, but with 3 groups, you then have to scroll around to find a certain light. Use tabs, or the horizontal page switching things that are common in iOS apps, for easy switching between rooms or groups. Also, please add a widget for iOS so that I can turn off/on a light from the notification screen with a button.

Room for improvement

the worlds gone mad

These lights are clearly marketed as a more affordable alternative to Phillips Hue. I’ve tried both and Hue has shortcomings of its own, not least of which is the lack of cooler tones and fewer lumens. I’m also ambivalent about both apps. I think Hue has some advantages but the widget and room schemes seem awkward. TRÅDFRI has this as well, but it feels incrementally better. The obvious areas for improvement for TRÅDFRI are HomeKit compatibility and more choices when selecting color temperatures. Once those features are added in, this will be a formidable product. I assume that since ikea is not a tech company first, they are not developing their tech products as quickly. It would be refreshing if their team was more receptive and proactive about putting these changes into action.

App doesn't work - Completely Unusable

CoSprings Mike

Just got the gateway and light kit with remote today. Downloaded and installed app. Found gateway through QR code scan. Got the gateway setup and the lights and 1 remote working, but after successful install the App is stuck on the 'What's New' screens telling me about Apple HomeKit, Alexa, and Color bulbs. I can't get off those screens to actually control anything! Restarted phone - did not fix. Uninstalled and reinstalled App - did not fix. Just immediately goes to "What's New" upon starting app and does Not allow me to get off those screens. Almeidfw who said its 'excellent' must be one of the bozos who made this non-working app.

HomeKit, Alexa - great, but lost my pairing in the update

give a fig

Great-ish news on HomeKit. But violated the first law of Mobile Development: do not loose the Customer’s data saved on the device. So IKEA, please work on that testing thing a bit more next time. That includes the broken links, supposed to tell me how to use Siri and Alexa. Now I have my cake, just can not eat it. Not to mention the disconnection and re-pairing. I’m about to go mad.

When it works it's good But...

I don't usually write a review but this time I have to... The app is doing some crazy things. Like it often want me to do the paring again.. And it's just bad, setting timers should be quick and easy.. Not struggling with it for 5 min

Doesn’t connect to Google Home

Google Home connectivity was promised and I’ve been waiting ever since. How hard is it???

Basically functional, but should be better

I can set basic schedules and control my lights — as long as I’m on the same WiFi Network. It’s a little irksome how unreliable it is with 3rd party integrations like Alexa (mine just stopped working a week ago and none of the support solutions have worked yet). It would be really nice if remote support was built in to the app (even Kasa does this relatively well for their components), but as of now we’re at the mercy of half-baked integrations you just can’t rely on. Which is a shame, because I like IKEA, and I really wanted this to work much better than it does right now.
