Can’t find gateway

Caramea

It use to work, not it can’t find the gateway this year.

Worked well until

Strict Judge

So I went out and bought the smart blinds along with the gateway to run them. Took a few hours of restarting to finally get everything in sync. Now my app doesn’t stay open and force closes. Great.

The app can’t find devices buttons don’t work

Rigadoohaus

I purchased a symfonik speaker a hub and a button. I have an eero WiFi system. The hub is 10 feet away from the room with the speaker and disconnects constantly. I have had to reset the button twice. The app is pretty much useless.

Complete trash

Have made it a stupid and unnecessary gap to control the lights with my echo plus. Biggest regret is ever buying the lights through ikea to save some money. Do not buy any ikea smart home devices.

Alright for price, room for improvement

Had Wink System before. Changed to Ikea since I like Ikea and items are affordable. After using for 6 months: - major update/upgrade of app would be nice. - lights randomly turn on or off outside scheduled times. After manually correcting, schedule is picked up again. - when changing start time of lights turning on (due to change sunset times), time that is set to turn off lights automatically defaults to 1 hour later. Please fix that it remains as programmed. - include option to turn on/off lights based on sunset/sunrise time. Give option e.g. “30 min before sunset”. Wink did offer that option. In general: Wink app offers more options, runs more stable, works as programmed after power outage.

Portal to handoff to HomeKit

BlackDiamond-

I don’t really use this app after setup since I use HomeKit to control the lights. A lot more functionality that way with way more automation possibilities. Everything worked for a few weeks and now all my automations are broken. Not sure if it’s an IKEA product’s fault or Apple.

Getting closer

Devs are working hard

Terrible

All of my Tradfri accessories have been reset in HomeKit twice in the last month. Absolutely infuriating. I regret buying this instead of Hue.

Blinds integration very glitchy since app update

Alvybro

I’m not one to shy away from putting together my own ikea furniture, and it was no different with the blinds. Hardware installation was easy, but getting the Tradfri hub synced up with this app and all the blinds was a little glitchy. Nevertheless a little perseverance and they were all working. Then this app updated and since then my blinds ecosystem (I have 5 at the moment) has been very glitchy. Anytime I press the clock icon in the app to edit the blinds schedule, the app crashes. I tried to instead make schedules through Alexa, but i had to make this schedule around the schedule that I had made in this ikea app but could no longer edit (or delete) sometimes works but I had to Possibly related to the above, or possibly other type defect, 1 of my blinds now refuses to go up and down more than a couple inches at a time. I have to stand there and hit the button over and over. Will be exchanging when they come back in stock if the app update that hopefully comes soon doesn’t fix this issue. Otherwise the app and interface are simple and fairly intuitive. Integrates well with Alexa. Overall 4/5 blinds work great and the features of easy scheduling (once they get the ikea app scheduling glitch fixed), a physical remote control, and Alexa voice control are great. The batteries are not a hassle at all to charge they have lasted over 3 months already on first full charge.

Way better security & privacy than Hue but still lights turn back on after power outage

Strengths: IKEA ’s app and the SECURITY model it uses (to SECUREly communicate with the Tradfri hub with COAP TLS) while RESPECTing your data privacy (by NOT spying on you and NOT reporting your time-stamped usage data to its servers) deserves a LOT of praise and it’s very well engineered ‘under-the-hood’. This is all in complete contrast to how the Hue app and bridge setup works, and how it’s security model is STILL “trivial” to defeat with a MITM attack, since it still uses a self-signed security certificate for https. It also sends a ton of data back to its home servers on a regular basis, and this is bad. The biggest weakness for IKEA’s app and Tradfri setup is that there’s still no ability to configure the Tradfri lights to NOT automatically get turned back on in the middle of the night after a power outage (which Hue app does allow user to configure to prevent) PLEASE implement this feature in your app and Tradfri lights’ firmware!
