Wide net for integration, but at what cost T-T

olivmac310

The thing I love most about google home is the wide availability of products that integrate well into the home app. Basically everything I want in my house (several nest products, couple mini’s, hue lights, a wemo plug, and a chromecast) is able to be set up in the google home app, and there are hundreds if not thousands of other products out there that can be set up in the app as well and integrated into your smart home network of devices. The thing I dislike the most is how limited the app seems to be without the user friendliness that usually comes with that limitation. In the 5 years or so that I’ve been using the app, I’ve come across many seemingly obvious functions (for ex: setting up a “night time” routine that happens at a certain time) that are either not available (when setting a routine, you can’t make a time of day the trigger) or are possible but very obscured within the app; I did eventually get the “night time” routine together, but it was in “family bell,” feature setting (limited by Google in its own ways and entirely different from routines even though the only difference in theory is the type of trigger) which can only be found in the settings for your google assistant, the path to which is not super obvious or intuitive when compared to routines’ placement front and center when you open the app. All in all, I love the app and use it all the time. In my experience, there’s no better smart home app out there besides Nest’s own app from before Google ate them, but unlike in google home, you can’t add the adjacent devices like hue bulbs or smart plugs. But PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD !!! MAKE A WIDGET !!! AND !!! MERGE FAMILY BELL INTO ROUTINES !!! Thank you!

Doesn’t work. Can’t connect.

Blindpink

Major disappointment. Doesn’t work with my chrome cast. Very slow and hard to use, setup is so confusing. Could never set it up. It just doesn’t work. Just going to use Airplay.

Terrible sync

Seishino

Well that’s awful. When you add a light to Hue, the only way you can get that light recognized by Google is to remove the Hue Hub from Google and Re-add it. But it doesn’t bring in any of the rooms or the light names, so you’re setting your whole house up every single time you change a lightbulb. This is 2022? How is this this g-dawful this far into home automation?

Google is downgrading feature

Fyrefly4598021345

I have been a loyal google nest customer, and recently due to a lawsuit with Sonos, google has downgraded their nest speaker groups service with no fix in sight. You can now no longer control individual volume (or group volume) on any speaker That is playing as part of a speaker group. It sounds winey, but it’s super annoying and makes me not trust google. This was part of what I purchased and now a huge feature is gone and Google not seeming to care that they have lost the faith of their customers. Maybe onto a Sonos System?

Google Nest Camera second generation

Mebirthdayisnear

So we purchased the new Google nest camera to replace one of our old nest cameras. First problem is they will not allow us to install using the old Nest app. We are forced to use the Google Home app. Unfortunately when using the Google Home app you have less functionality then the functionality on the Nest app.So now we have brand new cameras with less functionality than the old camera. Google support is useless. They provide no answers. They keep asking to send alerts and notifications through the app to the tech department. I do this I send them Screenshots validating I follow their instructions and then they can’t locate the alerts I send them. What the heck is going on at Google. They are giving us the runaround. No solution in sight and they will not honor a return. Horrendous customer service. I feel scammed. How many others are having the same problem? Feel free to add your comments and posts. Let’s make sure everyone knows what’s going on behind the scenes at Google.Maybe it’s because I use Apple devices for all other services and Google and the android platform don’t want to work well with iOS. I wish they would be honest.

Won’t connect to wi-if

MzliliKitty

I was already skeptical about using this google mini. Me not being able to connect to my wi-fi is definitely a bad first impression. Back in the box it goes….

Nest was better

Jamie_f_s

Nest app is way better. Nest thermostat works, the New Google Nest thermostat does not work. I have an older Nest Thermostat, I have had it for four years with no problems. I installed a new Google Nest Thermostat in a vacation home. I removed it after 2 days. For those 2 days my electric usage doubled. Plus the thermostat does not read accurate room temperature. It reads 3 - 8 degrees low and overheats the house.

Useless so far

hatterasmike

Tried multiple times to sync with my doorbell, useless

Unstable connection

Beware my power

It kept on disconnecting devices. No support options. Might replace it.

Buggy and no easy way to discover features

lechasecard

Horrible app and that makes it harder to interact with the hub device. They don’t have lists baked into the app. Features/functionalities are he’s to discover
