Perfect for a backup number!
TaintedLovexoxo

I use FP for a secondary number considering the town I’ve recently moved to provides me little to no cell phone service (I mainly use with WiFi). I’ve not had a bad experience thus far and I’ve had FP for months now, and it’s pretty much a perfect alternative to using my reg phone I have with a carrier.

What part of this is free exactly?

Bad to worst

I wanted to keep my spare phone alive and picked a free monthly plan to simply be charged $34 for a semi annual access!!! After I contacted them I was told it’s a NON-REFUNDABLE charge... one nothing freedom pop, not so free after all

Nothing is FREE

Free used to be free. No longer the case. Oh there is always at least a one cent a month fee to have the account. Is that even worth the accounting and bandwidth for them. They always try to upgrade you. I think T-mobile is a much better deal for a flat rate of $30 a month for the senior plan unlimited. Also Verizon has cheap unlimited Pre-paid plans.

Contact Names Not Showing Up on Call Log
MisterEclecticBlue

None of the people who call me or who I call names are showing up in the call log. When people dial in, their name is not shown, only their number. What good is it to have a phone if you don’t know who’s calling? Now everyone is a suspected telemarketer! Fix this ASAP! Latest iOS. iPhone 6 Plus. Latest update of the app.

Muy pobre

Used to be great

This app was outstanding about three years ago. To contact someone, you’d have to gnaw your leg off at the knees or pay. I’m on the complementary plan now and that does not work at all. I was depending on it for Disneyland and while it showed there was 3G, I was not able to use my guard up at all. I’m not sure whether I should switch up Sim cards or what to do at this point.

Great, but easy to pay more than intended

This works great and is a terrific price, but if you’re not really careful you can end up spending a lot more than you wanted to with additional services.

Beware!!!
RobertDowney

This is garbage!! Where do I begin? First, this crappy company is a lie. The service is in beta. Second, it's not a phone service. It's an app that you use instead of your phones native dialer. Third, the app barely works on wifi. And I mean barely. Fourth, the app will not work while driving or anywhere out away from wifi. Fifth, the worst customer service of any company period! The horrible reps do not care about you, will hang up on you and will laugh at you and insult you. Stay away from this lie of a so call company!

This is a completely genuine and honest review.
Not A Fake Review :)

I give this service 5 stars. For starters, the company FreedomPop offers a free SIM only plan. You are allowed 200 MB of cellular data which is set up through the APN configuration profiles found in the setting section in iOS. They also give you free 200 minutes of phone calls and a free 500 text messages. You cannot make texts or calls without WiFi or cellular. You also cannot make 911 phone calls on your FreedomPop number, but only through the iOS native phone call icon. You’ll also want your phone to be unlocked to begin with one of the main cell phone provides such as AT&T or Verizon. You can ONLY make calls and text over the cellular configuration profile linked to the purchased SIM card. If you are on the free plan, it’s not like other service providers where you can call or text without WiFi or cellular. The phone service they provide for the free users is Voice of IP (VoIP), which means that all your communications must be down through the cell towers or over WiFi. They give you a new phone number and you can pay 10 dollars to transfer your old phone number so that you can continue using it. Each minute of phone calling takes about 1 mb of cellular data. The texting service allows you to send photos/videos but you cannot receive them. If you are looking to send or receive photos/videos or any other non-text items then I suggest you use Apple’s iMessage through your iCloud account or you just use email or some other type of texting service that lets you send or receive photos like WhatsApp. You have to buy the SIM card yourself online for just about a dollar. At first, you get a free two weeks trial of unlimited cellular data and unlimited text and talk. But then, you have to cancel or you will be paying for the service like a regular phone bill. Make sure to remove all the hidden fees by logging into your FreedomPop account on a desktop browser and unsubscribe from the services so that your account downgrades to the free version only. At that point, they automatically deduct 20 dollars from your account as part of their top-off fees, which basically means that if you go over your cellular data limit they will have some funds to deduct from your account. This is the only time you have to pay FreedomPop for their service: a one time initial fee of 20 dollars and/or if you go over your free plan data limits. Everything else is completely FREE. After that small sacrifice of 20 dollars (they have to make money somehow, right), you will be able to use their service of free 200 megabytes of cellular data, 500 texts, and 200 minutes of calling, completely free without any monthly deductions. This is the kind of service people use for if they do not have to make much phone calls or texts and they do not gobble up much cell data. This review is targeted for iOS iPhone users. I am not sure how to set up the service on an android device. I hope the run down was helpful for anyone considering buying a FreedomPop SIM card and setting up the service through their phone. It does not take long to set up; it is quite easy to get started. I stand by my rating of 5 stars because the service is amazing. The calls do not lag even over cellular data. The cellular connection is pretty fast (LTE speeds) and the cell tower coverage is quite good. I highly recommend the FreedomPop service plan. I have been using it for nearly a year now and it’s gotten me a free service that I don’t have to pay nearly 50 dollars a month for like other phone providers. It’s for the ultimate free loaders.
