Hijacks Public WiFi Authentication

RB Cantabrigian

I was unable to connect to hotel or airline WiFi because the Boingo app prevents the iPhone from displaying the portal authentication page. I first tried to reset network settings without success. Finally uninstalling this app allowed me to connect properly.

Can’t use WiFi

Tim0thy

This app makes some WiFi networks unusable. You can’t tell it’s happening but the WiFi will work once you delete this app. This is a horrible bug and I would never have this app on my phone ever again.

Terrible. Don’t use even if you can. Delete it

Terrible app we have tried all over the world vis-a-vie our Hilton Amex providing this “benefit”. It rarely works and many times with Hilton hotels actually inhibits wifi so we are deleting and not recommending anyone use this worthless app.

Cannot select preferred connection methods

As many have stated here before, having the app on the phone creates many connection woes. For instance it will try to connect you to to a hotel network and never actually connect you without giving an indication of an issue. Once you realize the app is the problem, it is supposed to give you an option to forget the network for a period of time but I have found this option presents itself about a third of the time. If you accidentally hit the wrong option, you never get the pop-up back. There needs to be a hard setting where these features can be turned off. The current only way to make this happen is to delete the app from the device.

Not possible to disable

Xaver TJ

The app blocks most of the public networks I have access to (e.g., hotels, airports). Function “ignore network” doesn’t work.

Messed up my phone!

I downloaded this app by mistake and now I can’t use the app I did want because it tells me that my WiFi needs to be turned on. I check it, it’s on, but it still says it’s not. Very upset!!!

I tried. And tried. And tried to connect to “boingo” networks. Airports, hotels, city - no luck. And more so, it will basically prevent you from logging into non-Boingo networks by trying to seek credentials through boingo. I tried this app many years ago, retried now, and still the same. It will make accessing any WiFi network 10x harder than simply using the WiFi network login page. Avoid at all costs. Will try again in 5 years or hopefully something better comes along..

Happy but annoyed

I live in NYC. The app is great as far as always being able to find networks while I’m on the go. My one complaint is that I’ve had to uninstall and reinstall at least 10 times within 2 months as the app stops working and gives an “invalid password” error message. This needs to be fixed. I will hold that 5th star for ransom until I receive a fix and a holiday assortment gift basket.
