Corrupts your whole iPhone

andrewtylerwind

iOS users be warned: I spent 11 months wondering why my iPhone wouldn’t load captive portal screens, thus preventing me from using dozens (hundreds?) of free WiFi locations around the world. Apple Geniuses had no idea what the problem was, nor did anyone on the Apple message boards. Then one random user with the same issue said deleting the Boingo app would fix the issue, so I did. Everything works properly now. This app is garbage from a garbage company that monetizes WIFi in places like airports where Internet should simply be free. Boingo extorts money from people when they’re often desperate to get online, and that’s just a fact. It’s been screwing me for months and I’m done. I hope the company fails.

Crap app

I travel every week. This app has yet to find any WiFi. And when I do try, it warms me that I’m using cellular data to find WiFi, which it never finds.

It was useless

Ignatz1

I subscribed so that I could access WiFi while on my trip to Europe. But it couldn’t find any WiFi in the Fumicino airport in Rome, not in the Pisa airport, not in the Orly airport, not in Charles DeGaulle airport. I found one spot in Paris. Hardly worth the subscription price.

Eating 90% of battery

Alexianderianoi

I had a battery problem recently on my ix and thankfully using new battery menu in setting I found out that this app was eating my battery whole days

Battery killer - updated

Cadel Lowe

iOS has a great feature to see what apps are constantly running - this one was so bad that it only let my phone charge to 80% as it was constantly running overnight in my house. Why does this app need to run in the background at all? When I need it, I’ll load it. Waste of time when you’ve already put the Boingo config profile on your phone. Added May 10 - the app is the latest version. I have a screen shot of battery and app usage for the day I deleted this app. Before 4 am, race condition, 60 minutes of background usage every hour. After 4am, almost no background usage. So yea, current version. Review stands.

Unusable

I can't connect to the hotel WiFi where I'm currently staying without using the app. I get disconnected after 5 - 10 minutes connection time forcing me to connect again using the app. Uninstalled the app and everything is normal now. Also the suggestion I got from support didn't apply to the version of the app on my iPhone 10s Max.

Sketchy service

Birdoggie

I paid for this service to sit in an airport and download a movie from iTunes. The speed test promised me that I was getting 95mbps, but in reality most connections were throttled. I understand that networking is complex and there are many potential bottlenecks but I used several proxies with a variety of locations to perform my own speed tests and noticed that I was only ever getting 0.8-1.8mbps. Being that iTunes is a major content distributor I don’t see why you would want to throttle it, unless it’s to promote your own services like boingo tv. This seems pretty unreasonable to me. ??‍♂️

Interferes with other wi-fi & updates can lock up your phone and drain battery

BizTraveker603

Too many times now I’ve been blocked from hotel wi-fi because this app is interfering in the background. Latest update kept spooling until it nearly drained my battery. Use this app as a last resort and turn it off otherwise! App user beware.

Does not work, stay away

Wasted time and money trying to connect at BWI airport without success - I will be asking for a refund - terrible product experience
