Overall I'm way more satisfied with ExpressVPN than other VPN options. Having their own app with a good interface puts them miles ahead of providers that use OpenVPN as far as user intestate and user experience goes.

Outstanding results with router

I only us it on my iphone and router at home. In the past year the connection has really improved. Streaming YouTube in China is about the same as when in the US. There are times when connection is an issue, but I believe that to be related to my location. They make regular updates and connection resumes to normal relatively quickly. I highly recommend this app.

The iphone app is free and you pay of course for the annual or monthly fee on the website when you have to sign up and register. The issue is that once you install the parent app expressvpn on the computer it will not shut off even if you Disconnect then Quit the app (as the customer support has suggested several times) Once quit and shut down, the app it still is running and takes up 96.5 to 99% CPU and constantly asks for an outside connection. I have spent much time with their customer support and they ALL seem to act genuinely surprised that this issue exists as if it was the first time they have ever heard of it before and still there is NO fix. The app will not stop running in the background and hogging so much cpu that it runs the fans on high on both my Macs running both High Sierra and El Capitan. I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times to no avail. There is something very odd that this app wants to constantly connect with outside ips even after a force quit and shut down of the app. Even after several attempts to contact customer service for a fix they still say they have "never heard of this before". The only way to quit it totally and stop the background activity is to delete the application or force quit from the Activity Window utility and never restart it. For this reason I would stay away from the "free" app until they stop using the Mac in this way.

Stick at “disconnecting”

Every now and then it’s stuck at “disconnecting” and stays that way even after rebooting the device. The only resolve was to reinstall the app. This is pretty bad. Also, when selecting a whole region (say “Hong Kong”) it should do an instant quick speed check to see which one is the best at the moment - this is currently hard coded inside and it’s often not the best one.

This VPN does exactly what it says. When I logged into my Facebook account for the first time on my new iPhone, Facebook’s notification told me about it and then showed me they picked up the location as being in New Jersey. I’m in the Midwest. I never have any problems with it and there is a huge difference between the free VPN’s and the ones you pay for. This is 150% worth it to buy. I’m staying with it. Love it and I highly recommend it! And Comcast stopped throttling my internet on Kodi as well. Haha!
