Absolutely Terrible - Rip Off

I hate this app more than words can describe. I’m deleting it and going back to Instacart as soon as I finish this review. If my orders were ever correct, and I had a way to see what I was actually charged for the consistently wrong orders and way to resolve order problems without calling the store, the app would be great. Adding groceries and checking out is great, however, getting incorrect items, off brands, too much or too little of something, it’s just extremely frustrating. You can’t see your order after they start shopping for it. They don’t include a receipt or email one or let you see a receipt or prior order on the app. When I’ve called the store about missing or incorrect items, the person just says oh yeah we adjusted your bill. It should be in the bags, it wasn’t. It never has been. I had to resort to taking screen shots of my orders to compare it with what showed up. Also, you can’t adjust the tip afterwards. So if I leave a big tip bc I expect they will bring the groceries up 2 flight of stairs and they’re lazy and don’t, I can’t take back some of the tip. Here are some of the examples of crap I’ve revived using this app: Ordered $20 apple pie - got instead 2 cheap sweet potato pies. Ordered Philadelphia original cream cheese - got some off brand whipped cream cheese. Ordered pound of fresh Brussels sprouts, received a bag of frozen ones. Ordered a bag of everything bagels and blueberry bagels - received two bags of cinnamon raisin bagels. It just goes on and on….I’ve probably used the Vons app about ten times…I don’t know why I gave it so many chances. Back to Instacart.


Nothing more maddening than having to update while shopping

I was just in the Vons in Lakewood California. I wanted to buy some things that were part of the digital coupons I opened my app and it told me I had to update it. I did the update I open the app again and it told me I had to update it. I did it a second time and when I open the app again it said it had to update. This is the most maddening thing there is. I’ve left the store and won’t be back.

Why change an easy to use app? The app is so unfriendly it’s unreal! I spend my time waiting in the customer service line getting money back, because the app doesn’t work properly! I’ve stopped shopping at Vons because of the app! Fix the app and I’ll come back!

More than once now, it has taken Vons employees longer to bring out my order than it would’ve taken me to shop for the items. This app has wasted more time than saved it and my rewards have disappeared.

Despite multiple customers in this list hating this new version of the Vons app, Vons does absolutely nothing. And these bad reviews started being posted since the debut of this mess. I was curious to know why the overall rating for this app is high, considering the glut of negative reviews. Well many of them are good reviews for the old app—which was great—that are still in the mix. But here’s something else. There are negative reviews for this new app with five stars ratings. And not just a few. Makes you wonder how such bad reviews would somehow get five star ratings.


Update: Why no landscape mode? Where’s my receipt?

Original post: Main problem is the lack of landscape mode. We use our tablets to order and this missing function is annoying. I DO like the ability to switch between pickup, store shopping, and delivery while retaining my item list. Newly discovered problem. Can’t see copy of receipt in app. And can’t see previous orders. The Vons app is now clearly inferior to the app of their main competitor here in San Diego, Ralph’s (part of the Kroger family). Since both stores are equidistant, I’ll use Ralph’s as my main grocery store.


Fix what needs to be fixed!

The one thing that needed to be fixed: For each order to be delivered, I want my delivery instructions attached. DoorDash deliverers must call me on the phone each time and I must explain how to make the security gate open, where to drive when inside the gate, where to park and where to deliver the groceries. Sometimes the DoorDashers speak little English and have great difficulty following directions. Permanent directions could be translated for the DoorDasher, making their service independent of their English language skills. I have begged for this change for months but you release a whole new app that still fails to address the most important deficiency of the old app. Shame on you for wasting your money on useless software development!


Plastic bags

When I first started using Vons delivery service, most of the time the groceries were delivered in paper bags, which are recyclable. Lately everything is coming in plastic bags which are not recyclable since the onset of the Covid pandemic. I hope this gets fixed. We are flooding our world with plastic. Can’t we do better?

In the day of the iPad, WHY would you force people to switch to a new app THAT DOESN’T ALLOW SIDEWAYS VIEW?!?! I checked settings on my iPad and in the app, no way to change the view. Come on, Vons.


Rewards clipped while shopping no longer working

I used to clip rewards and coupons after I was done shopping and waiting in line for checkout. I did this for years without issue. Since the app was redesigned several months ago, the rewards are not being applied to my purchase. Please switch back to the old app, this one is not working correctly.
