Excellent A/I and Excellent App

AppDudeToo

I’ve played this app for 6 months (regularly) and its A/I and implementation are excellent. It’s tough to beat a computer opponent (with top-rate algorithms) but that’s exactly what you should expect. If you want to improve your gameplay, this app will help you do just that. 5 stars is exactly what this developer deserves.

Challenging but fair

Lts15

I’ve been playing this version for years and consistently winning matches, either 100 points and the more statistically significant 1000 pointers. I generally win between 65% to 70% of the points. The programmer is definitely an expert player and his/her expertise is reflected in the strategies the program employs. The previous version had a definite weakness with regard to when it would accept a double and it was possible to trick it into multiple doubles when it did not have the advantage. This problem was eliminated entirely. That said, the program still has a weakness that you can exploit for extra points. It will not accept a double in most cases when you have a pip count of 8 in your favor. That said, the programmer’s expertise is so good that if you have to play expertly and avoid mistakes. In the past I’ve read reviews where the reviewer felt the game cheats. Yes, it looks that way sometimes but the law of large numbers prevails and in the end the dice favor neither side.

Needs update!!!

Rocker Ronnie

Three major issues: 1) Needs to resign when a win is mathematically impossible. I'm tired of playing out games. I resign once I can't win. Your engine needs to do the same. Needs to show clock on iPhone X screens. So much wasted real estate! Lazy developer!

Fair dice and TUTORING ($1.00) to become a better player.

staceylee67

I have played many of the other backgammon games and this is by far the closest to playing a person that there is. Also there is a tutor element that you can buy for a dollar so you can learn how to play better. The dice are fair, not slanted for the computer to win. And you can prove it by checking the upcoming dice rolls. This is the absolute best backgammon I have ever played against a computer.

Computer Cheats !!!!

Do not buy this game if you’re only going to play against the computer. It cheats!!

It cheats

Rio Sabadicci

No matter what the developer says, it rolls in its favor. Expect to win less than half the time no matter how good you are. Very frustrating to get the worst rolls possible.

Lovely Backgammon but needs a couple of tweaks

beadman40

BG engine is great, play is slick. Pretty as well. However, unlike BG Blitz, there’s no suggest a move option, even though with the tutor mode it will suggest on, and give an analysis of alternatives if you make a bad one. Also, a finish the game option (with the engine taking both sides) would be very welcome. And a very fast option for game/animation would help for when the fairly slow pace of even the fast speed drags. Interestingly, the engine’s play gets a bit testy when it’s either locked out of its home board and is way behind or is being badly beaten in a game that will be match game. In the first case it will sometimes fail to make the roll for you, and will require two taps to make the roll for you. In the second, rather than move off normally it will dawdle moving into the last board and move off, resulting in an unnecessary (and meaningless, as the match is not in doubt) gammon or backgammon. Not a bug, more of a charming idiosyncrasy. Best, R

Best Backgammon app by far!

Strongest backgammon app, many options to

Upgrade and learn a lot

VBinNV

I upgraded and it’s clearly worth it. Computer opp is clever. Complainers about “lucky AI” need to learn about probability. Developer Markus is very responsive. I bought tutor option to show what an idiot I might be and it is great. Shows win probability based on your move and other options. I’m addicted.

Dice are rigged

Super frustrating.
