Frustrating game

thewryte1

I have read the reviews, read the developers comments, used the hints, and bought the different boards and pieces. Visually and stylistically, this game is head and shoulders above every other backgammon game out there and I have bought plenty of them. But I must agree with the other reviewers When they say the game “feels” rigged and it “feels” as if the computer more likely than not will get the perfect role to get out of a difficult situation. I understand when the developer says that there is no benefit to him in rigging the game, but it doesn’t feel that way. I have play this game every day for about a month, and every day I have to stop playing the game because of the frustrating feeling that the computer either will get a perfect role to get out of a situation that I have trapped it in, or will get multiple doubles to pull even When I’m about to bear off my pieces. The most difficult thing about this is that the game does not have a feel of randomness. In other words, it does not feel as if the rolls are random. There is always a constant feel that the computer will get the perfect roll in order to capture one of my pieces or wriggle out of a difficult situation. I am well aware that the more intelligent the AI is, the better it will play, and I accept that. I don’t mind losing if I feel that we both have an equal chance. What I do not like is that it feels as if the dice Are not random. I don’t know what can be done to fix this: I am not a developer. All I know is that I am very close to deleting the game because of the constant feeling of frustration I have in playing it

It cheats don’t waste your money

Sorry game it cheats so bad

Not happy!

TexasAngelWolf

You say the dice cannot predict ahead, and yet the dice constantly give the computer doubles. It also constantly gives my opponent everything they need to entrap me. VERY disappointed in this games dice rolls. More than a bit disgusted with these dice.

EASILY the best backgammon game on the Apple

thewryte1

I tried, practically, every backgammon game on Apple and this is the best one by far! Intuitive engine, clean look and the tutor is very helpful in building your internal backgammon engine :). Worth the $

Developer came to my rescue and provided directions enabling me to get my download and it’s awesome. I am now a happy camper again Thanks so much Markus

Hard to believe it’s random

LardButt185

I’m sorry, after playing this game for only a little while I’m deleting it. Even on the casual level, it seems the computer always gets the right roll to nail any open piece, or two, even if it takes both dice. Likewise, even if half the opponent’s home is open, you will roll the blocked numbers. This can’t be explained by AI competence, but I sure the developer will insert his cut and paste, grammatically incoherent response here:

Needs update!!!

Three major issues: 1) Needs to resign when a win is mathematically impossible. I'm tired of playing out games. I resign once I can't win. Your engine needs to do the same.

Rigged dice

JohnP!

I tried giving the developer the benefit of the doubt but the odds are very much against the rolls I see. I quit.

positively brutal!

This developer could not design an honest app so he designed one to cheat, and cheat it does. It is brutal and relentless and truly unbelievable. Expect him to close his board quickly, roll lots of doubles, have easy entry when hit, and more often than not, a miracle roll which alters the course of the game. He tries to keep you on the bar while he quickly races his pieces around the board. It's like playing an opponent that can pick his own roll at least 10 times during the game, or more. If you are not really, really good, this app will crush your spirit. You will sit there cursing in disbelief as you get dice cheated in every single game. Here's two of his favorites. You throw a 6-4 or a 5-1 opening role and split your back men. He immediately hits and gives you a 6-6 which you can't use. He then rolls a 1-1 or 3-3 and he's on his way. You might have a complete inner board except for the 4 or 5 spot and one straggler just outside while he has 2 men on the bar. He throws 4-4 or 5-5, brings both men in, hits your straggler, and goes on to win the game with lots of doubles. You can never play a strong back game because he will peel off his pieces without leaving you something to hit. Despite the fact that I am good enough to beat him 98% of the time in a 7 point match or above, it still annoys me off that he has the nerve to claim that the game doesn't cheat. It is so freakin obvious! To win, you must use the cube. This is where he is inept but you still must be careful for even then it might not be easy. If you are peeling off and have no men on the 5/3 spots, you will roll a 5-3. If you have an odd number of men on the 6/5 spots when you are peeling off and he has a man on the bar, he will give you double sixes or fives and then hit your remaining blot. Despite all of this, I love when he accepts my double and I go on to gammon him. It cancels out 4 of his cheating games. Try to predict what a cheater would throw. You'd be amazed how often you get it right. When he hits you and only has his 2-5 covered, you will throw a 2-5. If he has the 1-4 covered, you will throw a 1-4. Naturally, you will get your double sixes right after he hits you and you can't use them. Be aware, these are not rigged rolls every once in a while, this is a constant relentless cheating attack from the opening roll right up until the last roll of the game. Bottom line is you will never get not even one honest game with this app. Somewhere, somehow, you will be cheated, even in the games you win and especially in the games you think you are completely in control of. This is inevitable because the game was designed to do that. The developer has emailed me trying to convince me the game doesn't cheat. Sorry, after many years of playing his game, no dice. After reading his response, I believe that he does not really understand the definition of the word "cheating". He most likely has never played his own game, and might not even know how to. Or, he is just a very good liar. Or both. If you take the time to analyze his "random" generator, you will discover that it is not as random as it seems. The whole series of numbers appears to be based on the predictability of the moves you make with the rolls IT GIVES YOU, so, if you know what your'e doing, which you should in expert mode, sooner or later you will get cheated, no matter what type of strategy you employ. After all, it's a BACKGAMMON random generator. He suggests using manual dice to prove there is no difference. I laughed real hard at that one. Ever notice that if you happen to be in a running game that the big doubles seem to always work against you. Ever notice that his pieces constantly enter when he's on the bar and yours don't. Random generator? Yeah, right! He also states that "from time to time, a list is available to view the upcoming rolls", but what he doesn't tell you is when that list is not available, that's when you severely get cheated, because that's when the rolls are based on what you throw, no matter how much he denies it. He admits "The result is that a human most of the time has a feeling of never getting the dice he is hoping for, while the computer always gets dice which fits into the game." I think that's called CHEATING. Besides, a good backgammon player doesn't hope for rolls. He uses what he randomly gets in a strategic way that will give him the best chance of winning. I continue to play his game because I now know what to expect and can survive it and win, and because I like the wooden board and pieces, although I must admit, I am getting tired of the rigged dice. It never stops. And as for his continued insistence that the game is honest, like he's right and we are all wrong, What arrogance! No respect whatsoever. I could write a book on the unlimited number of ways that you will be cheated in this game, but what good would it do. You already know. This review is reaching the size of a book. He should remove his full of lies "developer response" and start telling the truth. WARNING: THIS APP CHEATS. THIS IS THE ONLY WAY I KNEW OF TO MAKE IT A CHALLENGE. I'M SORRY FOR UNDERESTIMATING THE INTELLIGENCE OF THOSE OF YOU WHO PLAY MY GAME. PLEASE FORGIVE ME. What do you say, Markus. Care to come clean? You could end all these justifiable negative reviews right here, right now. No more BS. Be a man! We are waiting. NO RANDOM NUMBER GENERATOR SHOULD BE ABLE TO DESTROY AN EXPERT BACKGAMMON PLAYER AS IF HE WERE STANDING STILL, UNLESS IT CHEATS, MEANING THE NUMBERS ARE NOT RANDOM AND ARE BASED ON WHAT IS THROWN, WHICH THIS APP EVERY SO OFTEN DOES, ESPECIALLY WHEN THE ROLLS ARE NOT AVAILABLE FOR INSPECTION.

Awesome!

Absolutely beautiful HD boards. I love playing on them. The BG Blitz engine is very good and will give you a run for your money every time. Of course, the nonsense about unfair dice is just that. Nonsense! You think you play well, but you probably don’t. Let the BG Blitz tutor show you your errors. Dice will be good sometimes and bad sometimes. That’s just the luck factor in the game which exists with or without computers. This game is really sharp looking. Five stars.
