I worked with thumbtack for over 3 years now. I have over 30 5 star reviews and all of a sudden they put my account on hold for a background check. Over the years I’ve seen many fake jobs that they posted in order to steal pros money but I overlooked it because of the few real jobs and relationships I have made with such great people. Thumbtack does not require licenses for trades like electricians Hvac and plumbing. Sure they give you the option to verify your license but it is not required. So just know when you have someone coming to your house they may or may not be licensed and may or may not have had a background check.

Charges Freelancers $10-$20 every time you view their quote.

I have been freelancing on thumbtack since 2016, and there’s aspects of its service that as consumers you need to know. The way thumbtack makes money is by requiring freelancers to pay a fee between $10-$20 every time you view a quote. While it can be easy to get annoyed and the fees some freelancers charge, services like this put that into perspective. The app interface makes it so simple to view our quotes causing us to lose money. I have personally stopped using the service as both a freelancer, and client for this reason. Pleas understand that every time you view a quote you are taking that freelancers money, and they will never see it again. Overtime this adds up, I’d have more luck making money at the blackjack table than the ridiculous odds this company gives me.

great job in hiring people that have the expertise to assist in what is needed Jim’s electrical services was a huge help in completing what had to be done in a timely manner. It was a simple wiring for a lighting transformer for our underground pool. We are amazed how he made it look so easy. Being that safety is the issue when it comes to avoid any electrical shocks. Jim did a great job to ensure the ground he was done efficiently and clean up was perfect.

I love that professionals respond quickly, and I can message with them in real-time. It’s also great knowing a price up front. I will continue using this app, and recommend it to anyone.

We first used Thumbtack when we were looking for professionals to hire for our wedding. The results were FANTASTIC - we found the professionals we needed and the pricing was much better than anything we found on Craigslist or internet searches. We’ve used the same professionals multiple times, and we’ve used Thumbtack to find pros for other needs now also, and every experience has been great so far! I highly recommend that people start their searching with Thumbtack. Look other places if you want comparisons, but we’ve saved money every time we hired someone through Thumbtack.

I like communicating through the app for jobs that I'm interested in but not definite about. The contractors that are serious respond and you can read reviews and talk with them before selecting. This is great!
