After repeated claims that bugs were being fixed, the problems are worse than ever.

Maxwell B. Stinchcombe

I have been using LaTeX for decades now, happily writing math intensive papers. Finding a program that would work on an iPad seemed genius. However, this one has never worked well on either of my two iPads. And the support has been abonimably bad. 1. On the previous iPad, the program would systematically freeze, an error message would pop up far too quickly to be read, and the program would not respond to the keypad, sometimes for as much as 5 seconds. 2. On the current iPad, the freezing continues, and now it is compounded by flickering of the .pdf images, and a recurrent inability to scroll through the document. 3. On neither iPad have I been able to email my files. Support told me that I needed to have an email account set up on the iPad. This was useless, an email account was set up, and when I asked what might have been meant, there was never a response. 4. I have tried, many many times, to get support for the freezing issues. I recently looked through the email trail, it is impressively bad. Several times the promise was made that my problems would be resolved when version 1.8 came out. They are now on version 1.8.2. The same problems continue, some of them have become worse. In all, my recommendation is to give up on this program. Unfortunately, I do not know of a competently written option. Maxwell B. Excellent

With this rewrite the app is close to perfect (waiting for iCloud support). The split screen on the iPad is just great. Thank you!

Outstanding Latex app

mpfan

The existence of this app compelled me to buy my first iPad. As a research mathematician, I work with Latex practically every day. I have been using the desktop version of this app on my laptop and desktop computer for years, it's better than any of the many other Latex editors that I ever tried. At this point, I just hope that the following two additions will become available on the iPad app soon: - Integration of Box Sync and iCloud (due to its advanced security features, Box Sync is the only cloud provider that my university allows). - Click to jump between the text in the PDF and the source text in the editor, similar as in the desktop version. When working on large files, this function is absolutely crucial.

Wonderful LaTeX editor

AirBlock

A great rewrite of the app made it wonderful. This is especially nice on the iPad Pro with keyboard.

Almost identical to the OS X app

tedsvo

It's amazing that they were able to replicate the OS X app so closely on the iPad, especially on an iPad Pro. The only significant different that I notice is that your position in the editor isn't synced with the PDF, but I imagine this is in the works. Really amazing work - an indispensable app.

Love this app! Real LaTex on iPad! Autocomplete with Bluetooth keyboard support needed!

Xiaoear

This is real LaTex on iPad, and the offline compiler works pretty great and fast. I just used this app finished my homework. At most time, everything works fine, except two crashes encountered. One feature I really want is autocomplete with Bluetooth keyboard, if we can press Tab to complete would be really great.

Great Program but Crashes A Lot

I am a regular TeXWriter user but decided to try out TeXPad for the UI. I give the UI 5 stars, but the reliability isn't there. The program consistently crashes.

Most important app on the store for me

WildTop

I am a Math professor whose livelihood depends on writing a large number of research papers, class notes, qualifying exams, job letters, referee reports and grant proposals every year. I have been a TexPad user for about 2 years. My long-time goal has been to morph into a 1 machine guy, with that machine being a tablet. My goal seemed still very far away until just recently. Even though the iPad pro was the right hardware, the TeX software on iOS just didn't cut it. I have friends with myriad other tablets which I considered, but in the end I determined I couldn't live with any of them. With the advent of the latest version of TexPad my goal has been suddenly and unexpectedly achieved. It's just great. Not perfect, but great. With the iPad pro and the pro keyboard I have completely moved my document production to iOS. Everything else was already good enough on iOS, so now I'm a happy camper. I tested my system on a month-long speaking tour of India. Only once did I need a PC -- to transfer a PDF to a memory stick. Hint: if you want to try using the iPad pro as your main device, bite the bullet and buy a MacBook power adapter and the Apple branded (trust me) USB-C to Lightning cable. Now charging is over twice as fast and is livable, it was not viable as a main device before that cable was available due to long charging times.

Crashes have gotten worse

This nickname is taken. Try a

The previous version of the app crashed rather frequently, but you usually got a warning of some sort (syntax highlighting glitches), and there was never any data loss. The new version, however, crashes much more frequently, and even worse, data going back several minutes is lost (which is particularly infuriating when the crashes happen every few minutes). This is a shame, because I loved the old interface, and I like the new interface even more...but the crashes have made it unusable for me.
