Texifier : LaTeX editor is paid iOS app published by Valletta Ventures UK Ltd

bug ridden

Nevensky

Although this is basically the only working latex ipad app, it is far from perfect. The integration with icloud crashes the app and thus is unusable. Custom packages are difficult to install. No support for dark mode. When showing the pdf alongside the code editor you have to manually scroll over the pdf in order for it to appear (bug). I am giving 3 stars until things improve.

Crashes since the update to ios13

TechAmateur

Texpad used to be a stable application. Since a recent update to iOS 13, the updated version of Texpad seems to be plagued by frequent crashes whenever changes are made in a LaTex file. Hope that a fix is on the way soon.

Need webdav and can’t save files

XuefengXu

This app is great on macos but not complete on ios. Currently this app can’t be used for work because of the following issues: 1. Can’t sync with 3rd party cloud services I can’t link a folder using the files.app within the app. No webdav support. 2. Sometimes can’t save files This is the main reason that stops me using this app for working. Although it can link some third party files from some webdav cloud services. After typing 2 hours, when I want save the files, I have to close the editor, there is no “save” button. Although it says that it is “saving”, when I open the file again, I found that I lose all the content I’ve typed for last 2 hours and that’s really terrible. The file system is not stable. I hope this app can have better file system and I really want to use it since its latex support is great. And currently I’m using some code editor on ios like textastic to type latex which can save and sync files.

Big update

Alphabool

I’ve been using this app for over a year, and the recent addition of cloud pdfLaTeX compilation is a boon, as the TexpadTeX compiler is very primitive and not production-ready. However, there is a timeout on the cloud compilation which puts a ceiling on the size of the project that Texpad can compile. Effectively this app cannot compile complex or long projects.

Don’t Use

You know what’s worse than spending a bunch of money on an app that’s useless? Spending a bunch of money on an app that costs you hours or days worth of your thesis because of file system management issues.

Figures

I like the fast compilation time on this app. Honestly, when I try to make a plot with 3 different graphs of 3 different colors, all turn out to be black, and for importing png files, the way I have to do it on TeXpad is different compared to TeXstudio, and that even if I do it correctly, the picture doesn’t even show up. Shouldn’t the compiler for both TeXstudio and TeXpad be universal? What is going on?

Early Review

TheMrBeanie

Very function Latex Editor. The experience is mostly great, I’ve encountered some bugs and quality-of-life issues. This app is certainly better than using an online application through Safari. I’ve encountered some rendering errors in the editor with newlines. Sometime a newline appears when I have typed no character and the selection caret gets locked. Backspacing and retyping the line reverses this. Also sometimes the PDF viewer fails to render the pdf on startup or when switching back to the app. Zooming in then back out fixes this issue. As far as quality of life, while I appreciate spellchecking the editor doesn’t differentiate spellings for some commands vs normal text. For example, the editor keeps telling me in the command “\begin{bmatrix}” that “bmatrix” is misspelled when it is simply a command. Otherwise I am enjoying the on-device Latex support and look forward to using it. I am using the app for writing math assignments, quizes, tests, and personal homework and it had no issue downloading the correct AMS packages I needed.

Used to love it. Gotta dump it.

A very very sad story. I used to love this app. I’ve used it since it first came out. I’ve been a beta tester. I really wanted this to work. Then came the ‘updates’. Dropping Dropbox support, really? No amount of whining from the developer will make me believe that dropping Dropbox support is a good idea. There always seems to be a bug they are changing (note that I didn’t say fixing). Now it’s the cursor jumping to the top of the file randomly on some files and not being able to see the top of the file in others. As it is, unless you are already deeply invested this is a definite ‘Don’t waste your time’ app.
